Houses were lonely places in Oblivion. Will we have any frie

Post » Sun Feb 28, 2010 6:01 pm

I loved the cool houses you could buy and furnish in Oblivion, but no NPC's ever entered them or came calling. I would love to see some sort of SIMsish NPC behavior and have the people who like in your village/town/city drop by. Borrow a cup of imp gall? Find you inside to ask you about progress on a quest or start a quest? Drink ale? Maybe Bethesda could script some companion interactions that takes place in owned houses? Maybe an NPC who hates you will look for you at home to settle an old score? Will keeping a well stocked wine rack encourage the return of the local drunkard ( till you get sick of him and bury him in the basemant )? If companions get separated from you you could meet up at your base of operations? Other cool ideas guys?

The NPC interactions detailed in Skyrim so far states that NPC's you are friendly with would give you room and board, or supplies to help you out on you journey, we can speculate that this can go many steps farther as they come over for shix and giggles, fill you in on the latest occurences, offer potential quest givers etc etc.

or you could have a stalker hiding somewhere in your house when you come back every 3 weeks :P

Really wouldn't mind it really, although I do hope that we can have a better interaction to neighbors that depends on alot of things other then saying hi and bribing them 3k gold

I would love that! Not everybody is an adventurer or killer or thief who stays out all day doing whatever it is, they do. Some stay in doors and cook or read or study or practice with magic. And it'd be awesome to have friends come over and hang out and talk with you, just like in real life.

optional is the best option

Optional is the magical solution to everything, but is an impossibility in practice. Nothing against you, but I am just on a personal vendetta to kill the idea of optional content that can be turned on and off with a toggle option. Sometimes it's reasonable suggestions, I'll say that much, but this, and many others, are among the dumbest proposed toggle options I've encountered. It's right up there with the optional lunula texture for thumbnails because some people thought it looked too stupid. I'm sorry, but these things are the most insignificant, baseless subjects and don't even deserve the consideration of an optional feature.

Get the PC version and go get a mod for it, that's what they're there for.

Meh, all players want is to "Herp Derp, kill dragonz derp. I lova ma lootz cuz iz all i carez aboUTs. I killz everyonez and has no friendz! I DoNt CaRE FoR RoMAnCez Or friendz or eatinz or buyin houzes cuz I killz dragonz cuz uma dragon-bOne"

In other words, the majority of people are awed by hacks and slases and spells and whatnot. They think all good games are just fighting and leveling up.

It would be a cool way to get random "my-kid-got-kidnapped"-quests or something. Especially work well when ones fame rises, and your reputation in the town is pretty hero-like. :foodndrink:

id love too, care to donate? i still need about....uh...how much are those things nowadays?

anyway, i dont think you have any idea what youre talking about. i was saying it shouldnt be in the game unless its optional so i dont have to have it. no one said anything about a toggle option, actually that would be very stupid. for something like this there are much better ways to make it optional. like be saying "no, stay away from my house" or just killing them if youre like that.

When it comes to Skyrim, I think that's the gist of what any logical person should want. I play certain games for, you know, the main points of the game. I want it to excel in those places specifically. If I wanted to play The Sims, I'd play The Sims. I could care less if those features are in Skyrim, because that's not what I bought the game to do. If anyone thinks that an action adventure fantasy RPG requires romance, building relationships with NPC's, and micromanaging your social life, then I think they're playing the wrong games. It certainly didn't help the sales of Fable III...

I'm not sure how having friends drop by would work. But I do want hired hands for my house. Small houses or even hut should allow you to have a scullery house cleaner to keep house. A bigger home should allow for a scullery maid, housekeeper, and a handy man. And the biggest houses should allow for five servants (maid, housekeeper, butler/valet, handy men, houseboy, cook, etc). In this way when you arrive home, there is the appearance of activity and keep up the house in keeping with its size. The servants could pass on town news and the greater the number the more likely you would find out about different news. For the largest houses, you might have your own black smith and guards.

"Live another life in another world"-Elder Scroll's motto.

Not "Fight in another life in another world".

I wouldn't expect such feature. I don't think you will be able to hold it out for a long time in your house.

 Pure win.

I didn't find the ones in Oblivion all that lonely myself...now, I did stop hiring the housekeeper for Rosethorn Hall since it was annoying as hell to have her greet me every 30 seconds or so. "Yeah, I heard you the first 14 times, now shaddup!"
