How about a 'Please Stand By' mission?

Post » Fri Mar 04, 2016 2:47 pm

A mission to find the TV station broadcasting that 'Please Stand By' signal on settlement TV's so we can disable that signal and get some actual programs broadcasting on settlement TVs? Maybe even set up a signal to broadcast some arena fights from our settlements since theWasteland Workshop DLC will feature arena fights. Who in their right mind sits and stares at a TV showing nothing but 'Please Stand By'?

Meh, that was corny. Instead, I'll stand by why you try again.

I don't think wastelanders really know how to work TV's, though pre-war ghouls probably could. There really needs to be a late night Commonwealth talk show.

Obviously something is broadcasting that signal, so there should be a way to disable it. I don't expect anything complex or hilarious like GTA in-game TV shows. A Commonwealth talk show sounds pretty cool. Anything beats looking at that signal every time you craft a TV.

If they did this, I think they should add the SPECIAL cartoons that play while the game installs.

Edit: After fully reading the OP, I also agree that broadcasting your gladiator fights would be cool.

Even something simple like that could definitely work.

Imagine old pre-war ads followed by post-war ads as well, and maybe some news. "Need a mystery solved? Visit Valentines Detective agency today!"

That would be perfect.

When you turn on the TV, show the SPECIAL cartoons, add in a few pre/post-war ads here and there: " Buy a refreshing Nuka Cola at your local vending machine, today!" and then the latest arena fight held by the Sole Survivor themselves.

Exactly, even in-game things like that. Old Corvega, Rob-Co, Nuka Cola, Vault Tech ads, maybe even the pre-war news report of the bomb dropping when we escaped to 111. There are so many ads that could be shown, even without audio if recording new dialog might be an issue.

Travis definitely has a face made for radio, lol. Though it would be dope, that would require new dialog recording of both before and after you complete his mission since his personality changes.

I completely forgot about that. That would be cool to add, seeing the news from 200 years ago about the world ending, while living in the wasteland would be really interesting.

The broadcast station idea sounds pretty cool, maybe it should be something that you can upload pre made videos that you can find in certain locations. Maybe the intro videos could be found in a vault? The videos being on shuffle if you will.

I don't actually care how it happens, I just want something to happen with the stupid T.V..

Yeah and maybe even settlers and Commonwealth residents making one liner questions and comments like 'wow, can't even imagine what it must have been like hearing that broadcast' 'everything you know, gone after one news story, no wonder TV became a relic', or Piper commenting about your resilience from time to time, if you and her are near a TV when that broadcast plays.

I'm hoping one of the DLC's, at least, the Wasteland Workshop adds something to the TV.

Or instead of playing the holo games on our pip-boy, we could play them on the tv.

That gave me an idea. What if like the holo tape games, you could collect commercials and shows. That way, the more you find, the better it'll be. Maybe you could also collect blank holotapes, that way you could record things like arena fights and play them on the TV. The playing video games on the TV sounds great too.

How about a documentary series about previous FO games, done from an in-universe perspective and narrated by NPCs from the games?

Like "Tales of a Lone Wanderer" as told by Moira of Megaton, or "the legend of Courier 6" narrated by Yes-Man.

It's in the lore that they do. Remember the Golden Globes in New Reno.

This would be cool. I was disappointed to find the TV only had a Please Stand By message. I'd love to see pre war commercials and the news bulletin from the day the bombs fell, it would add a haunting quality to the game.

I'm not sure how you could have it make sense for the people of the Commonwealth to be broadcasting anything, but I'm sure someone could figure it out.

A cool thing in Vampire: The Masquerade-Bloodlines was, that when your character completed certain key quests or sometimes small events. A newsreporter would have a say on it on the television. Certainly, if a game that old can have it, so could FO4 :)

I thought that news building which is now Gunner's Plaza would have something like this.

If they can fix radios, power armor, lasers, boats, vertibirds and do plastic surgery, then they could just aswell make tv.

I believe that would be ez to implement ? which is good cause they should do that XD

that is what the radio already does >.<

Yeah I get that, except not all listen to that dj dude who is awful, along with the music (I actively go out of my way to turn radios off when I encounter them) :D Sure it is a subjective point of view here, but if going for television broadcasts, why not I say.
