How about a "quest chest"

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 5:35 pm

I was playing oblivion and i have a lot of different items that belong(ed) to a quest i can not drop, i wanted to suggest a kind of chest in TESV Skyrim that can be used to store quest items. The reason the player can not drop quest items is because we may not rember where we dropped it or it might clip into some other object, this would eliminate that occurrence and reduce clutter in player inventories.

The quest chests could all be linked to each other and be found only in certain places (mostly, player joined factions and player owned houses) so as not to be confused or left in a quest chest in some place the player goes to only seldomly.

I searched for somthing like this and nothing came up, and i was wondering what everyone else's thought were on this.

I've never seen any mention of this before. I think it's a brilliant idea and I hope the developers implement this.

Or a quest item only tab in the inventory? I don't necessarily mind having to carry them, but like you I dislike it cluttering up my useful stuff in the inventory. If it's all hidden under a tab and not anywhere else, I think I could live with that too.

Umrahels idea sounds grand, but if you drop a quest item, lose it, and can't complete a quest, should be your own fault, I suppose.

Wow, great idea, adds a bonus to owning a house if it is only available in houses.

I was about to write the same thing. They need to be at hand for practical purposes, but separated from other items - once again, for practical purposes.

The main problem is when you don't know that it's a quest item, maybe if they don't have their own tab they have some icon like stolen items had but instead indicating a quest item.

Failing that have a nice immersion breaking pop-up "this item is needed for a quest, are you sure you want to leave it in this ditch?"

I personally would prefer a quest chest for my items, because i like having as few tabs as possible, but i understand that a tab just for quest items is more practical.

Which is probably no worse (for immersion's sake) than not being able to drop it at all, because it's a quest item.

If there were a tab, I would want them to be dropable and have weight... then you would know what was a quest item and what was not and your choice would be your own...
Also I hope all chests in all (your) houses are none-respawning, I once lost my favorite damn artifact... saviors hide...

I personally would not like for quest items to be dropped just anywhere, even if they had their own tab, always a possibility they will fall through the floor.

 Good one. It's no more immersion-breaking than a weightless amulet that's glued to the inside of my inventory, except that the characters who by my design are never going to inititate the Oblivion Crisis can actually drop the [censored] thing and move on.

Barring that, then yes- the "quest items" tab works too. Get all that crap out of my face if you're not gonna let me drop it.

Pretty much every item that is for a quest you KNOW is for a quest. You didn't just stumble into the Blade of Woe or Arnora's True Amulet (The only things I didn't know was for a quest was the unicorns horn and Umbra). Just a way to not see them would be great, but being able to drop them with a warning that it is a quest item would be better.

Problem in Morrowind was that it was possible to steal some quest items without knowing that they was. Remember I stole many books from a bookstore in Vivec in the start of the game. One of them was used in some of the latest mage guild quests. It was impossible to know and the books was easy to take, making them an naturally target for low level thieves.

Now add that many quest items in Oblivion are notes who don't look special,
main problem in Oblivion is that many quest does not remove quest items.
