So, how about that Arena...

So I've been planning on replaying all of the TES games for a while now. I started Arena a few days ago, and after all these years... I think it's actually harder than the first time I played it. I've finished the Elden Grove quest, and have started the Halls of Collossus quest as a level 10 Nord Warrior. I have 75 Strength, 76 Endurance, 65 Agility, and 64 Speed... yet it seems like I have to reload at least fifteen times in every dungeon.

Elden Grove was particularly annoying, as Wraiths two hit killed my character a lot. In fact, all of my deaths in Elden Grove were because of Wraiths. What am I doing wrong, masters of Arena? I don't remember having to do five hundred Fed-Ex quests to survive the next part of the main quest, and I doubt going to random dungeons to level up will help as I don't remember that helping before.

My biggest complaint with Arena would be how stupidly fast the enemies move. Coupled with the short view distance in dungeons, it's a whole other experience.

In Daggerfall you see your enemies from a ways away and either sneak up on them or backtrack as you swing a few blows at them. Arena's just seem to pop out of nowhere at mach 10, and all of a sudden you're surrounded. And then they seem to almost as fast as you when retreating, too. In the end it's quite hard to duck out between blows when fighting them, it's just utter chaos.

Wraiths are tough...they fireball you over and over, just like hell hounds. Maybe last time you were lucky and didn't meet with a lot of them.

The best ways to beat them are [SPOILER ALERT:]

with a hit-point shield and/or spell reflection
.

Levelling up would definitely help. Arena's MQ monsters aren't leveled to your character a la Oblivion; they are static (except of course the ones you encounter via sleeping on the floor).

The wraiths and golems are the only enemies I have a problem with at the moment, though. I was wiping out the wolves and ghosts without breaking a sweat. Alas, Elden Grove had wraiths around every corner. I suppose it is about time for my warrior to learn some basic spells, though.

That was particularly annoying in Selena's Web and the Labyrinth. Spiders were popping out of nowhere, occasionally behind me, and often I found myself paralyzed. I had to pack extra free move potions for those dungeons.

I've completed the main quest in the Arena with Khajiit Ranger (level 20), and I had the Lord's Mail, which helped me a lot.
