How About a True Collector's Edition?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:22 pm

OK, we all saw what happened to the PIP Boy special edition. The lack of arranging a 1-2 copies per customer restriction, has left a lot of folks with a seriously bad taste in their mouth. While I had no interest in the plastic gauntlet I admit it was a great idea, and obviously they hit the nail on the head with marketing it.

My thinking is Bethesda could come up with a more traditional set with a metal case disc housing, a soundtrack CD, a "making of" DVD and/or Artbook. Leave the plastic gimmicks out... These could be available only through their website store, if they can't get retailers to work with a limit... Even if all we got was the game first, and the rest of the bonus content later, I'd think this a good followup. Still going to be scalpers trying to buck the system, but I think it would be workable.

Thoughts?

I agree that they should add another, cheaper special edition to the market. It's hard to beat a working Pip-Boy though.

(I don't necessarily agree with the title though, mind you. The Pip-Boy Edition did its job. It was pretty much a true collector's edition in every sense of the word. In-game content, working Pip-Boy with display stand, perk poster, etc.)

I would be fine with a special edition with the soundtrack and an artbook (toss in a metal casing if you want) over the Pipboy Edition were it available.

A "true collector's edition" is usually one that comes with plenty of limited, collectible memorabilia.

We got a true collector's edition.

I like the Fallout 3 collectors edition, similar to what OP mentioned. The lunchbox with the art book, CD, the bobble head was my idea of a perfect CE. The pipboy was nice but not really my thing. And I think it is sad how people have to pay scalpers outrageous prices to get one now.

The fact of the matter is that EB Games Australia DID limit the purchase number to 1 per customer in Australia. It sounds like it actually the resellers stores faults that they sold multiple copies per transaction to the same customer. Bethesda cant be held responsible for what they have done.

There. So I think is definetly some stores didnt think this out (even if they had time to think things over) and just decided 'money is better. Ill sell as many as I can to anyone that wants them' then 'Its a conspiracy. Ill sell 10 copies to that sneaky looking dude'

I think what they need is a combination of Pre-order bonus packs, like NV had + collectors items.

for the pre-order bonuses

Classic: (vault 13 armor and canteen 10mm gun and ammo and some stimpacks) and a water-chip

2 pack:( Sharpened spear, 2 antidotes 4 healing powders 100 worth of old world money 1 shovel 2 knives 3 Xander root and 2 Brock flower (or the east coast equivlent) and a "Type 1" geck

Tactical pack : 1 9mm sub machine gun, 48 rounds ammo 1 snack food 1 Nuka cola 1 Stimpack 1 Leather armor and a (Non Drivable) Tank

Brotherhood pack : Home made pistol. Shirt and pants, 4 bottles of Bawles Guarana*, and a steaming pile of [censored].

Capital pack: Unique 10mm "Amata" Limited edition Copy of Wasteland survivors guide(provids a weak buff while in inventory, 20 bottles of Aqua pura and a mini DC Capital building souvenir

Vegas Bennies Suit, Maria, ammo, 250 caps and a snow globe with the "platinum chip" in it

Note the Type 1 GECK, Waterchip, Non Driveable tank, DC Souvenire, Steaming pile of [censored], Waterchip, and snow globe are just decorator items

as for the Collectors edition, they already have PIPBOY version, they should add a version with everything in a Lunchbox, a version with everything in a "Geck" Case, a Version with the Classic Vault 13 Jump suit in sizes all the way up to XXXXXL, a Version with a 10mm lighter, a version of the 10mm built as a paintball gun, and a version of the 10mm that is a working 10mm pistol.

also the above in as wide a combination of individual comboes packs.. . for example walmart might get the Pipboy + GECK + 10mm real pistol, Gamestop would get the Jumpsuits and 10mm Lighter, ect ect....

*may have to further change the name..

This. I've never been one for the gimmicks. All I want is:

  • Steel Book Case
  • Artbook
  • Soundtrack

This may seem like I'm finessing over semantics, but please hear me out. Officially this is known as the "Pip Boy Edition" of Fallout 4. Is it collectible? Absolutely!! Aside from the Pipboy gauntlet and metal case for the whole package, though, it's really not much more than what came with Skyrim's general release.

I made an error in using the word "True" in the subject header, I'd really meant to say "Traditional" Collector's Edition which I used in the body of the post. Anyways, I do hope Bethesda releases something akin to this, except please leave the statuary out and include the soundtrack CDs ! I think it would sell quite well, and not seem quite as gimmicky.

Please no. I'm tired of seeing content stripped out of the game and sliced off to various retailers (Hello, Arkham), or put into multiple versions so you need a freakin' spreadsheet to understand what version you need to buy to get the stuff you want (Hello, Watch_Dogs).

What I want is two versions. The standard edition, and the collector's edition. The collector's edition's goodies should all be physical, tangible things. Artbooks, soundtracks, collectibles, things of that nature.

I want another lunchbox. .. I like to put sandwiches in things. I've discovered that sandwiches do not fit well within the art books........ but I guess that's ok, as art books are still fun to look at without the addition of a sandwich squished betwixt it's pages.

There was a reason I included such things as a XXXXXXXL jump suit and a real working 10mm.. . . . I was mocking the So called AAA preordercrap culture. also poking fun at Obsidians somewhat ham fisted attempt at Preorder bonuses....with My proposed pre-order bonuses being References to previous Fallout titals.(thus the"steaming pile of [censored] " bit for the 4th Preorder bonus)

Same for me, I prefer the "down to earth" editions like Oblivion or AC III 'Join Or Die'... I don't like ginormous boxes with ginormous kitsch plastic toys inside. Oblivion hit the sweet spot with me, compact beautiful box, lore pocket book, making of dvd and a nice quality metal coin. I really hoped Skyrim and now Fallout 4 would have a more down to earth edition like this, but oh well, I think these enormous boxes are kind of in tone with their whole bombastic marketing strategy after all.

Considering I've seen at least one pre-order bonus thread on this forum, and a whole lot elsewhere, I don't want to give the slightest impression that I'm in favor of things like that.

Something like Fallout 3 Collector's Edition would be great. A figure, an artbook and additional DVD with soundtrack/making of video and i would be satisfied :)

Pipboy is the "true" collector's edition, what you want is a "special" edition and there might be one, I remember EB Games had an exclusive Skyrim edition that was smaller and cheaper than the big collector's edition.

I would totally buy a second collector's edition if they ever release one. The pipboy edition wasn't even available in my country so maybe a second edition would be different in content and available on a larger scale?

I would love a metal box, the poster, art book, maybe a little bobble head to sit on my desk at work. Maybe make the metal box look like an ammo case or something cool and game related. The Pip Boy toy doesn't interest me at all.

I'd buy a "deluxe edition" that I can get at the midnight release over the pip boy version that I'll have to wait a day later for any day. In fact, that's what I was honestly hoping for and held off pre-ordering the pip boy edition until the second round happened. If they do a deluxe edition, I'm pretty sure I'll be cancelling my pre-order and getting that instead.

That said, the pip boy eidtion, whether you like it or not, is absolutely a "true collector's edition". However, I am chapped that they didn't think ahead to limit pre-orders to 1 to 2 reservations. Just seems incredibly short-sighted.
