How to add fire?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:34 am

I'm working on learning the creation kit, so I'm just doing an internal cell right now. I have a room with a fire place, and I've found some light sources that offer a fire-like glow and I've found fire pits/logs but they are all just static objects.

I'm looking for how you make an actual burning fire.

Thanks.

There are several Nifs located in the Meshes\clutter\woodfires folder. So using them should work or go into the CK and find a cell that uses the type of fire you want and double click on it to see what item it uses -- for example on Fort Amol the fire inside the Imperial Brazier (ImpBrazier01) has a moveable static named FXfireWithEmbersHeavy inside it as the fire ! (and uses the Effects\FXfireWithEmbers01.nif )

You'll find all those things under Moveable Statics (along with dust beams, wind-blown banners, etc). You won't see them animate in the CK window, but they will animate in the game. There are some normal statics, like candles, that have animated features, too. SOOOO much better than having to hand-place tiny individual flames nodes on tiny wicks like the old days!

EDIT: I almost said something about rubbing two sticks together, but restrained myself :P

You can press the FX button on the main toolbar to see them animate in the CK.
