How advanced are the people of Skyrim now?

Post » Sun Sep 25, 2011 8:37 am

I somewhat got the hint that in Skyrim the characters will have a higher technology than in Oblivion, which makes me wonder if guns will ever become a part. Or maybe fireworks, gunpowder, rockets. How advanced is the technology in Skyrim? What level of weapons do they have?

As far as I know, there will be the exact same weapons as in Oblivion.

Skyrim is described by the devs as "low tech".

I wouldn't mind guns but I want them to reinvent crossbows first ._.

Guns would ruin the series. If you want medieval-type area with guns, Fable is your game. I think the devs said the game's tech is more focused on magic, not the technology that we think of today (Guns, cars, planes, ect.).

Why have innovation when you have magic, that can practically do anything you want/need for you?

Not necessarily guns, but more gunpowder. Explosives. That kind of thing.

After the sole source of advancement, peace and knowledge has completely collapsed given way to war, banditry and disorder? Were more than likely in the wake of a darkage, which would be expected after any Empire like that collapses.

All technological advancement is limited to dwemer oddities. Including explosives such as the Dwemer Satchel Pack.

This.

While I expect that the more urban areas will have maintained their standard of living, with no unified government and an increase in conflict, everyone would probably be living hand to mouth with little time to waste on advancing civilisation.

It's pretty much a dark age now. I wouldn't be surprised if people went back a few decades.

Less actually; they have lost the ability to make different types of swords, to create spells among many other things.

Tamriel for some reason is going through a technological regression for some reason; during the time of the events of dagoth ur people knew how to make and use spears, halberds, how to levitate, create crossbows which are superior to bow and arrow...but now that knowledge has been lost.

the crazy thing is NO ONE KNOWS WHY THAT KNOWLEDGE HAS BEEN LOST!?!?!?

I believe they took out the variations of swords out like long swords and short swords.

Hell, Uriel VII would probably still be alive if his guards had known about the pass wall spell...

Or even teleportation.

I think guns would ruin the game. It is a fantasy story, the magic is the replacement for a gun. You want guns, play FO3. That simple.

So technology can't advance in a fantasy world? Daggerfell had a vague reference to the Ra'gada of Sentinel having cannons, so the tech exists but its not wide spread.
