How Advanced is OBSE?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:51 pm

I have taken a break from oblivion for a while but i was wondering how advanced OBSE has got, specifically, can it change your race, or something similar.
Or at a lesser level is their a way to actively change your body texture, change your face data to add horns, change eye colour or change teeth etc?

Thank you

OBSE's very advanced, considering where it's come from - true string variables, array variables, runtime error checking, etc etc. Pretty sure the issues with changing the race, though, are less due to "you can't" (you could using the console command if nothing else), but because of the instability that occurs when it happens. The game wasn't designed with you changing your race in mind, and things get messed up. Changing facial data as much as can be changed during character creation is conceivable, but I don't think OBSE's done it yet. There mostly hasn't been very much interest in that direction, though I do remember a few requests for facial functions recently...

Ooo i remember that breeze had a system that did this for his succubus mod. Probabley something to do with wyre bash, i have always been aprehensive about using wyre bash, but if anyone has information of knows how breeze was able to make a race change using this and obse, i would love to know.

It is just that i am starting a vampire and have also seen the new illidan type abyss demon race and i would love an ability to flick between the two.

Thank you

OBSE is advanced enough to flip Oblivion on its Head make it read backwards and STILL make sense, increasing general enjoyability. its the flipping and backwards reading oblivion I see that has so many people unwilling to give it a whirl.

I have spent a little time and got Wrye Morph to work, (which was not nearly as difficult as i suspected and that was made out by some), i was just wondering if anyone knows the ins and outs of it and was able to disble the "switching lives" part that saves the location you finish one form in?

I wish to use the mod to change my form, but i want to use it as a power up type thing so i can fly when i wish, so that i end up where i finish one form. From an assumption i assume the mod places a marker for each form, each time you shift, so it knows where to place you when you turn back. Also is there a way to disble the faction and inventory swap?

I do not mind modifying the script (and i will probably take a look at the script to see if i can do it myself) but i know that vanilla scripts can get pretty complex, yet alone OBSE and perhaps the most complex mod available.

Wrye Morph is... exceedingly complex. IIRC, it actually uses Wrye Bash in the middle of the game to change things. Which, in case anyone'd missed it, is insane. Anyway, really all I've got for you there is good luck - that's quite an ambitious project you've set for yourself.
