How and when does Maven make you Thane?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 12:40 pm

I am trying to figure out the specific sequence of events that gets Jarl Maven to name me Thane of Rift. If anyone can provide specific details, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

You know, Maven isn't the Jarl in Riften.

yip..head to the keep, speak to lady in big shiny chair, what on earth made you think Mave Black-Briar was Jarl?

thought i would add, just as in all holds..do some bounties and such within the given hold, help the folk within the city or steads etc.. i believe Riftens Jarl naming you thane involves local smugglers, it can be picked up by getting a healing potion for a female argonian....cant remember her name though but she works at the fishery

Maven eventually becomes Jarl if you side with the Imperials. As far as becoming Thane, I'm not sure what it would take since I became Thane before siding with the imperials and putting Maven in power =x

I reloaded my save after I found out she became the Jarl and gave Dawnstar to the Imperials. There is no way in hell that evil witch is going to be ruler in name as well of Riften. I am trying to make the place better, not worse. I've just been doing all the quests for people in the city, only two left before the gal will give me her personal quest.

Just help 3 people out in the city and you will be told the Jarl wants to see you.

Regarding Riften Thanery...

I helped out a couple people in Riften. Then I did the Skooma quest for the Jarl. Then I was awarded a sword. Then I helped out a couple more people, and was allowed to buy a house. But no matter how many people I help, I'm never offered Thanedom. Ideas?

This is what I did as well. I did the skooma quest for Jarl Laila, and she made me thane. But, when the imperials make Maven Jarl, I would like her to name me thane as well.

You were made Thane when you were given the sword.

Huh. I don't get the title of Thane or a follower or anything. I couldn't even buy a house at the time. Sounds bugged. Sad.

there are some spoilers here....

Spoiler
if you do enough things for people in riften she'll call you in and say that people are talking about you, and since it doesn't behoove her to disappear you, she'll just make you her thane instead.
It is 3 quests in most towns for random people.
I did Skooma, Blacksmith, all the thieve's guild, Temple and probably some other things. I would Suggest Mjoll, Skooma, and blacksmith quests.
If she doesn't give you thane after that, do Agent of mara, and then try to find other things :D
In fairness i didn't get it either, because the quest won't finish, but that is just a super cool bug with this play-through.

Thanks for the details. I just want to ask about some details, do you ever need to talk to her to start the "help the people" quest, or does she just call you in after you've done things for the people? This happens after the imperial take-over of Riften?

It sounds like you just have to be super-careful to do the Skooma quest after you've helped a lot of townsfolk, due to the bug.

Hmm, well I did the skooma quest long ago, but I have not helped many townsfolk and I have not done the imperial take-over yet. I've been named Thane by Jarl Laila, but I am trying to be named Thane by Jarl Maven.

I know that sounds weird, but in all the other holds, when a Jarl is replaced because of the civil war quests, the new Jarl will have the option to name you Thane, even if the old Jarl already made you thane. Maven is the only post-war Jarl who doesn't name me thane.

That's what you get when you allow the corrupt family member to rule the city. Not so great to help the Empire now is it?

You must be level 20, and a courier gave me a note every time saying the jarl wanted to see me. a warning though, in order to become jarl all the quests are not necessary, but save the game BEFORE buying the house to become jarl, because there's a bug in that quest!

Thanks for the info. What quest are you referring to that has the bug?
