How are the chinese soldiers still alive ?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 3:38 pm

I searched for the topic and couldn't find it. When walking into certain building, a good example being Mama Dolce's food plant, I see a lot of chinese ghoul soldiers fighting back. I realize they're ghouls, but its a full 200 years after the Great War. Does this not make any sense, or am I missing something? If the answer is "a bunch of people killed them and stole their clothes, then learned chinese" then I will simply refuse to believe that, lol. I will even accept a link to the fallout wikia.

Thanks,
Tomi

Talk with enough ghouls and you will learn these are immortals of a sort.
These would be the remnants of the Chinese force which got nuke irradiated here.

As best as I understand it, the Ghouls at Mama Dolce's were Chinese plants that 'activated' when the Great War hit, as it looks like the agents killed all of the non-agents in a sort of Coup, and have been held up there for the past 200 years. As for the people themselves, Ghouls are long lived through some unknown cause of the radiation they've taken in.

IMO the whole thing didn't make sense and was completely contradicted by Point Lookout. The Mama Dolce's place was a front to get Chinese agents into the country. But then Point Lookout shows us that the American government was rounding up Chinese people and Chinese Americans similar to the Japanese interment of the second world war. This is backed up by Fallout New Vegas' OWB dlc.

So I find it very hard to believe that the American government that was actively rounding up and interning Chinese people would overlook a factory full of Chinese workers in the heart of the American Capital.

Although they also never found out that L.O.B. enterprises was in league with the Chinese and producing weapons for them.

That's still not as bad as Mama Dolce's though.

I think the radiation keeps them alive. Feeding from it, but i'm not sure. You also find one in a "random" encounter. He has a parachute and a Chinese Assualt Rifle.

Close enough. The American government wouldn't have over looked it.

They are ghouls, and they still need to eat and drink like anyone else.

People have already answered how come they are still alive so im just gonna come up with some wild theories.

They are probably fighting for China cause of Communism. Thats what i think, just some revolutionery chinese ghouls that dispiese the US government, nothing new about that.

They are in a food factory. Lots of food an water around.

I think they don't know that the war is over. So they are still fighting.

I guess Bethesda was kind of making an anology to some of the World War II Japanese soldiers that were stationed in the Jungles of the Pacific and were still fighting WW II 20 years or so after it was over, because they had no news from the outside world to tell them otherwise.

they could be on the cusp of going full-on feral so while they may still hold onto the last vestiges of their humanity their minds could be reeling in the madness that could soon leave them little more than beasts

That's neat and all but they would have noticed the friggen nuclear war happening around them, and its been 200 years.

Did you notice in Searchlight the ghouls went mad too in a very short time ? They just don't notice the change because they are completely mad and they just retain some instinctive human behavior. Like the ones in the movie dawn of the dead where zombies still go to the supermarket and don't notice everyone is dead.
It is more incredible in searchlight because according to Carol in Underworld the ghoulification is supposed to take a long time, and here they become glowing ones, feral ones or human-like ghouls in a short time where NO legion soldier is ever ghoulified when you release the containers in cottonwood cove. They are just killed.
Moira brown too becomes a ghoul in a day even with massive radiations. But the player never becomes a ghoul the radiation kill him.
Don't search too much realism or logic in any video game or you may become a ghoul yourself

Because conflating Chinese soldiers and the Imperial Japanese Army is in no way ignorant and wildly offensive.

When its a reference, no.

Bethesda was likely referencing the entire "holdout" concept as a whole. Not necessarily just the Japanese holdouts of WWII (although they are probably the example that people would think of first, they are not the only example).

In any case, why does a reference to the actions of some Japanese soldiers in WWII have to have Japanese soldiers in order for it to not be offensive?

It doesn't have to have Japanese soldiers in it. But it should probably avoid using a group of people that the Imperial Japanese Army [censored] and murdered by the millions. It's like having Israeli troops in a reference to the Waffen SS.

I just think that's looking into things a little too far. Like I said, Bethesda wasn't referencing the Japanese specifically, just the idea of a "Holdout" as a whole. There are other examples beside the Japanese.

More to the point though, it would not be referencing in any case the [censored] and murder that the IJA inflicted, just the principle of the holdout that some of their individual soldiery had. Under that principle it would be like using Israeli soldiers to emulate some of the tendencies of the Waffen SS (which aren't unique to them) without referencing the actual specific genocide of the holocaust the SS was complacent in. If that's the case I wouldn't see a problem with it at all, but to each his own.

As best as I understand it, Ghouls are in constant necrosis, and simultaneous regeneration ~indefinitely, if left unharmed.
