How are the nords smarter than imperial and Redguards?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:32 pm

I just read somewhere that the Nords are the second smartest human race in tamerial. That doesn't make sense how can they be smarter than imperials and redguards if their just a bunch of stupid drinking barbarians. And throughout are history barbarians in the dark ages were always stupid. And also their suppoused to be really strong so doesn't that usually mean that their suppoused to be stupid. And when I talk to Nords in oblivion their so [censored] stupid, like Jayred ice veins in the shivering isles goes "They say the gate keepers magic, well I don't believe in magic!!!" I mean how can walking skeltons and a giant inhuman monster conivince you theres no such thing as magic.

Assume you're talking about the "anthropology" section http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Nord?

If so, disregard it because it's [censored]. There.

Complex Nordic religious or magical rites often consist of much less visual symbolism (i.e. depictions, representative imagery), but are often composed of more vocal ritualism (i.e. chants, proverbs, spoken language prayers and referential phonetics). Nordic vocalists are always much in demand in the Imperial City for both Temple choirs as well as highbrow operas, because of the spectacularly deep range of their voices, to which no other Mannish or Elvish voice can accede.

If this is made up, I lol.

I may add something about their Aryan purity, just to see how it fits and if anyone notices.

The UESP needs to stick to in-game information, in my opinion.

Yeah, if the namespace is going to be incomplete, they shouldn't do things by halves.

Because the gameplay information is accurate and comprehensive. If they send you there for lore, it's because they don't know any better.

the game is full of reference to Nordic cunning and power, most of the history of the imperial family and some of the guilds have a great portion of their stories taking place in Skyrim.

as for this intelligence claim, i have never seen such in the game, and it seems that all races are equally intelligent or representative of their native condition.

I never saw Nords as dumb, just stereotyped as such by other races and sometimes rather headstrong. Besides, they are very charismatic and have a great deal of willpower, so that stands for something.

The base intelligence of Nords in Oblivon is actually quite low, lower then female Orcs and Argonians in fact. They are factually quite stupid.

I do remember reading that on UESP and I was just like "what the [censored]?". I mean, there's always at least one in every game that ends up naked due to his own stupidity and I've always found the TES ones to be extra stereotypically stupid.

Aryan purity? A man claiming to be Aristotle once remarked on the absolute natural stupidity of people with blonde hair and blue eyes, and the fact that their base intelligence is TES is so low seems to indicate Bethesda feels the same way.

They're more intelligent. Standardized tests from the Mages Guild show they are. Just not with social-political stuff, which is about the only way Imperials are.

So where's the source for this standardized test proving this? Is it a book or piece of dialogue in the games, or is it something a dev said? I don't remember reading anything or hearing anyone mention this test in the games, and searching for phrases like "mages' guild intelligence test" on TIL doesn't show any relevant results.

I don't consider them inherently thick at all. I just find the idea of an intelligence test from the Mages' Guild showing that Nords in general are "above average human intellect" and "definitely more intelligent than Khajiit or Argonians" baffling.

I have never seen any documentation either ingame or on TIL which indicates that Nords are inherently more stupid then any other race. Instead I've found that, like the rest of the races, intelligence varies on a case-by-case basis. The reason for so many "stupid" Nords is probably because the devs like to use the "drunken barbarian" stereotype to inject some humor into the game and, unfortunately for the Nords, they're really good at playing barbarians.

As for Jayred Ice Veins, well, he was in the Shivering Isles which means he was probably insane.

If this is made up, I lol.

Nords do have an affinity of sorts with vocalized sounds. For proof, look up the Thu'um at TIL.

Just..never get into a shouting match with a nord that knows Thu'um...you'll lose very badly. Usually in pieces, if there are any.

The previous paragraph mentioned the Thu'um. Then they brought up the opera.

That and people trust Wikipedia, which generally is better and more reliably accurate, but one should never trust something that any Tom, dike, or Jane can edit.

In terms of IQ I'm pretty sure any human race has roughly the same capacity, which is the capacity of up to 90 years hard experience. In terms of culture yeah because they don't waste time on God-speak. Too busy following Pelinal in verifying Sword-Theory.

Not really. Regardless of how many years experience they potentially have, some people just aren't as smart as other people, not every human's brain in our world works the same way. TES makes such differences genetic and thereby race-wide, its not difficult to comprehend unless you're caught up on the "you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up" crap that's drilled into kids heads: well guess what little Timmy Wild-Heart of Solitude, no matter how much you might want to be an epic mage of vast learning and understanding its not gonna happen, you really are too stupid (even Sotha Sil calls his little Nord student stupid, and it turned out he was right).

But you can be whatever you want to be! Just train in skills that raise the Intelligence attribute so you'll get a x5 modifier!

Players get to be exempt from rules. Chances are its not normal for some nobody prisoner to become more powerful than a demi-god or Archmage over the course of a year, if it were I think we'd see a much faster turnover rate amongst the high offices. :shifty:
