How are you going to level?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:40 am

So there's been discussion of how we're gonna make our characters right out of the vault, but as you level up, how do you plan on spending your points? Do you plan on leveling your SPECIALS first and then later level perks? or the opposite and focus on perks at first and SPECIAL after? or just in between?

Personally I plan on maxing out my Perception, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck (which I should be able to by level 15) and then just focus on perks until there's not anymore that I can get or want. But what's your plan?

Think I'll take a few crafting perks at first and then bump charisma and agility a few points. After that perks mostly.

Hard to tell without really seeing the perk chart and all the ranks. I think it'd be tough/annoying to start maxing specials without taking perks to help survive.

Most likely try to get crafting/gun skill perks first.

Well I plan to level by letting my Gun do all the talking for me

Just point it, pull trigger, and apply bullets till targets are wet with blood.

Oh! You meant how do I plan my build well.

I'm thinking about just putting a 4 in every stat.

Then I'll pick up

Weaponcrafting

Armorcrafting

Scrounger

Lockpick

Hacker

For the first play, I was thinking just making a Jack of Trades character rather than be locked out of potential loots in containers and also picking up the early Luck Perks that help with looting.

Probably not the most amazing character but it'll help me get an idea of what has happened to the game since their last release.

Pick an perk consistent with my current level and needs and work towards it. Early that probably means combat perks. If I qualify for the perk, I pick it. If not, I pick the stat I need to unlock it.

I want to bulid a good solid base before I start spending points on SPECIAL

Assuming I can, I'd start with Gunslinger and Gun Nut, followed by Medic and Toughness, maybe then Armorer or Attack Dog.

I'll start screaming at them until they get scared and start levelling themselves up. Going for New Vegas style level up system of a perk every 2 levels for my first playthrough, but I'll assign an increase to a special every 10 levels. Eventually will stop assigning perks all together after level 50 (special increases included). Perception and intelligence will be my focused specials and Energy weapon rifle/sniper will be my combat focus.

I think I'll go with 2:1. After every 2 perks, I'll bump a stat. So levels 2 and 3 I'll pick perks, at level 4 a stat will get buffed. Go from there.

I want to see how well it all works out before I set anything too concrete, but I know that I don't plan on using more than 1 SPECIAL Training perk per attribute. I don't care to max out any builds build until way down the road, years from now.

As for everything else I have a bit of a concept on how to stat the character I'm basing my build on. I still need to see how perks work and weigh how/if they will fit my character, though.

I plan on prioritizing certain perks first, especially Endurance ones like Solar Powered, Toughness, and Life Giver, and then in-between the level requirements for subsequent ranks I'll be picking up extra perks and bumping up some other SPECIALs, but I don't plan on sticking with any ratio or doing certain things at certain levels. Just gonna feel it out.

I'm going to go for crafting perks first, especially the weapon related ones. Get my gear up to snuff, then work on my skills.

First you get kill the things.

Then you get the XP

Then you get the levels.

And then you get the women.

I'm definitely in the "wing it" camp. My first characters are always generically balanced; evenly distributed SPECIAL. Then I'll just grab what tempts me. If I've got my eye on a higher tier perk I'll SPECIAL up until I can unlock it, then pick something else to work towards. I'm guessing my first few perks will be crafting and weapons based though. Once I've done a half decent run with that, experimented a bit, and finished the main quest (which I will inevitably try not to blast through too quickly, but always will so I don't have to worry about spoilers online) then I'll do subsequent run-throughs with more specialised and planned builds.

Perks first and foremost, only exception is one point of intelligence early on, but other then that, lots of perk focus at first.

I'm likely going to put INT at 10 and then see if we can change the difficulty on the fly and then if we can see if we get more on very hard. If so I'm going to put it on very easy to widle them down to a tiny bit of HP and then put it on hard for the kill to really maximize XP. If it turns out to work cool if not I'm not worried.

I will see what perks I can get, if there's one I want/need then I'll take it. If not I will level up a SPECIAL choosing the one that will unlock a wanted perk and if there's not a perk 1 level up I will choose the SPECIAL I get the most use out of.

Well I plan on setting up my initial SPECIAL's as all between 3 and 6 so that I can get whatever Perks I feel like I must have right away within that range. Then after I have those perks, start moving up the SPECIAL scores to get Perks I feel like I'm missing.

I don't want to feel like a super human when I look at my stats, so I definitely won't be maxing out any SPECIALs unless I desperately want a lvl 10 perk or if it suits my character. As such, I'll be perk heavy and stat poor =)

But what I will also do is reduce the XP gain. I'm sure there's an .ini setting for that. Or increase the XP thresholds so I don't level so fast. In Skyrim I always hated how I was lvl 10 before I even made it to Whiterun. Ridiculous.
