How are you going to make gold in Skyrim?

Post » Fri Nov 05, 2010 8:20 pm

well eventually the majority of the money i get will probably come from dungeon plundering and doing quests. but at first, if there's fishing, im gonna start off as a fisherman selling it in the market. otherwise, I might start of as a traveling merchant, buying where it's low, selling where it's high, and fighting monsters in between.

Fishing, mining or farming. I hope there is a large variety of fish.

I'M A NORD AND I'M DIGGING SOME ORE, DIGGY DIGGY ORE, DIGGY DIGGY ORE!
Ahem, in all seriousness, it will be mining and dungeon plundering for my nord warrior, stealing for my (imperial?) thief and farming for my breton mage.

i'll do some of the main quest, some side quests and see how that works. if i really need the money i'll find the arena and make it the hard way. if all else fails i'll find an isolated village, kill everyone and ransack the place. im hoping you don't get a bounty if you kill all the witnesses :toughninja:

I'll hoard like squirrel untill I find a good merchant to sell all my collected loot to. Killing bandits for example, taking their weapons and armor and storring them in a container in a place I feel is safe untill I feel I've collected enough to make a large sum of cash. :celebration:

It would really svck if there were NPC thieves in this game that snuck into our houses and stole all the stuff we were hoarding, or tried to pickpocket our gold.

The way I do in every other RPG - kill things, take their stuff, loot their cave/hole/ruin, and sell it. It's Tradition!?

I for one love economies in video games. A good example is Runescape, one of the first games I've ever played, period. I enjoyed messing with all of the different skills it had to offer, and I really disliked risking my items in combat. Haven't played that game in over 4 years, but when ever I play a game with an economy I always try to go the " right " way, using various skills and such. In Skyrim, hopefully they'll have a tutorial on how to mine + farm + smelt + all of that good stuff, I will probably do a little bit of farming but my main overall focus will be mining. After I have my fun with these skills I will " play the game " and most of my money from then on will come from dungeon loot and quests.

I'm going to flare all the corn and such,Pick them up before and sell them with huge profit

The same way all really talented assassins make their bank...

By killing whatever I can, looting the bodies, keeping the equipment that I can use and selling the stuff that I can't.

Greed, like Evil, is Good.

lol

I'll start off by selling skooma under some shady Bosmer fellow. Once I make enough money, I'll buy a green house and start a moon sugar lab. Once the first batch hits the streets, i'll expand to a lab in each city and hire someone to watch each lab and hire an overseer to keep an eye on all the bosses. I'll hire some giants as my body guards and attempt to crush the competition.

In all seriousness though, i'll probably just raid dungeons and return all the useless stuff for a profit.

The way I always make gold! Steal everything that isn't nailed down -- and anything I can pry up doesn't count as being nailed down.

Or on fire, can't take [censored] that is on fire....

Stealing and reselling things, pickpocketing, and selling skooma (or any other "drug").

Thug life.

Simple, i'll go and find a Dragon's Lair, kill the Dragon, and loot his huge hoard of gold/gems. Then i'll probably skin his ass too and make Armor from his hide, and either store or sell the meat. Wonder if they're gonna add weight to gold again, like in TES II: Daggerfall. If so, might want to bring a pack horse or a few minions to help me haul the gold back to my stash. Hopefully they'll let us drop our gold on the ground, i want to recreate the gold hoard in my house's secret room.

Likely the same way I did in Oblivion, dungeon diving and selling the loot.

Edit: At least to start out, until I get these new "professions" figured out.

Stealing from merchants/rich people I don't like(I hope they handle stealing like in Morrowind so I don't have to find a fence).
Whoring myself out as a mercenary/assassin, good ol fashioned treasure hunting, and joining a guild or two.

Maybe cutting some logs, or selling fish if its profitable.(Should Argonians be better fishermen in this game?)

Same way I do in all these games; through a tedious accrual of objects that satisfy a sufficient value:weight ratio.

I actually really hate it that all my characters always end up being potion and scroll, and cigarette merchants. Yet my characters always need money, so I always do it. Inventory micromanagement is easily the worst thing about Bethesda RPGs.

You know what I'd really like? Substantial quest rewards. Q: How many times have I gone on a quest across the continent to retrieve an object for some guy and have him give me 50 gold pieces once I get back? A: Many. How about if the actual pay for a job is a stronger incentive than the torn up clothes and used weapons I might find along the way? I wonder what that would be like.

It's neat to get loot, but stripping off the shoulder pads of every rogue I kill gets boring, fast. Every quest should have maybe three things worth looting along the way, and they should be shiny, dramatic things like gems. Things that the audience would be impressed by if this were a movie or book. There's a reason that books and movies don't catalog every single item of plunder realized by the heroes and explain how they carry it all home.
