Hello forumers,

So I learned something new today; I learned that there is the Open Access movement.

For all of those who don't know what it is, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_access is a link that details what it is; it is a movement that aims to publicize as much of publicly-funded research as possible, and to encourage researchers to publish their research in the public domain. This means that any person, any citizen, of any expertise level, could read the research, learn from it, build off of the research, and distribute it.

Now, I am not new to this idea of open access, I was just clearly unaware that there existed a huge movement for this. And when I say huge, I mean huge; far exceeding what I would have suspected.

So then my question is this; although people of the expertise circles may well know what Open Access is, how 'common knowledge' do you believe Open Access is?

Now I won't hide the fact, that I am considering writing a term paper on eSociety and the Movement. This is quite a fascinating topic and I do agree with its goals.

Sounds like a good thing, I don't agree with the notion that people should be able to own ideas. Kind of counter productive to progress.
