How Do I Buy A House In Markarth?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:03 am

Like I did in Whiterun, I tried to buy a house from the Jarl in Markarth.

The Jarl in Markarth told me I had to prove my loyalty before I could buy a house there.

Since then, I've done various side quests exterminating the Forsworn.

Here's where I have a problem.

I've done EVERY bounty quest that the Jarl's steward has offered me. He won't offer me any more.

I don't have an option to buy a house when talking to the Jarl and I can't even have a conversation with the steward. He just keeps repeating things.

Am I doing something wrong?

PLEASE help.

I have the same problem. I've been having to run in and out of the castle to talk to him, to get and complete quests, with guards chasing me due to my mine/jail escape. This is preventing me from becoming Thane and therefore opening up the option of saying to the guards "I'm your Thane" so they finally leave me alone once and for all. This is a bug.

I though you got a free one by doing a quest...

Some people don't like living in a house possessed by TES's closest approximation of Satan.

Alright, first you have to do the quests for the cities leader (the jarl) and then they will give you the right to purchase property in the city. Then you have to speak to the Jarl's second in command, fork over some gold, and then you will have a nice (relatively) new home. You can then speak to the guy you bought the house from to upgrade it's interior. :D http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/House_(Skyrim) <<< This might help too.

I've done all the quests for the Jarl of Markarth and his 2nd in command but the old fella won't offer up any more dialogue options. Stuck on this still.

Weird, I did one quest to kill some Forsworn, then he asked me to bring him a shield of some sorts, and then I had the option to buy a house.

You have to be Level 20 or Higher for the dialogue to appear. At that point, he'll give you a quest to find a Shield. Find it, return it and you'll be able to purchase property.

The option to buy was there for me... I was turning in a bounty at the time.

So I turned in the bounty walked away then thought "actually I have the gold..." went back intending to buy and the option had vanished...

It's definatly bugged.

I had the same problem, until I gave the city to the Stormcloaks. Then I got the ability to do it. So maybe there's a bug for Imperial run Markarth or maybe the disposition quest is harder to find.

Just do every damn quest in that area you can find + nag the Steward and go to the inns for bounty notes. It was the hardest house for me to pick up but I got it in the end.
