Does anybody know how to whom to buy the house in markarth from. i have searched all over and done many quests for his steward but i still cant find anything about buying the house. i have also heard that you must be level 20 and do some quest for the jarl to get his shield for him but everytime i talk to him we wont say anything about it. i am a level 22 i think by the way.

Anyways, it's true, you need to be over level 20, but the issue is actually that you have done too many quests, most likely. Once you did everything for the Jarl, the option to buy the house is gone.

However, if you stay neutral in the civil war until a certain part of the main story where the two quest lines intersect, you will have the chance to make Markarth have a new Jarl and from him, you will be able to purchase the house. Or you wait for a patch to fix this issue.

You have to complete five quests before the Jarl will allow you to buy a house in Markarth. There are six quests that you get from him/his advisor. Just make sure that after every Markarth quests, you return to the Jarl. That way, if there is a bug, you can still get the house before completing the entire Markarth Jarl quest series.

To me it just sounds like people haven't completed enough quests ... (Someone was saying earlier that you have to complete two quests for the Jarl- that's incorrect. You need to do five.)
