I've seen so many posts and threads recently with people who seem to be supporting the Thalmor. Umm...

Why?

The guys are essentially elf nazis. They imprison, murder and torture members of their own kind, so of course that's wrong. They seek to kill the Dragonborn when he just saved the world. Oh, and it seems like they want to undo the entire world.

Everybody, Stormcloak and Imperials, agree that the Thalmor are bad no matter what. Beth made them that way, there had to be a common enemy otherwise the civil war wouldn't have much of a motive to win. So you won the war and now what...? You're going to march on the enemy who have...not really done anything to piss you off?

A bit worrying to see some people supporting racists and totalitarians...

Because they're stupid.

Roleplaying. The Thalmor obviously agree with their own policies.

They're either joking around, or they just like the concept of the Thalmor. Or they roleplay. Mostly the same reason I was part of the Enclave Fanclub back when it existed.

Also, most people don't know that they want to unmake everything.

I'm sure if the Thalmor were real you wouldn't see near as much support.

I really shouldn't be saying this, but we all know real-life examples of the likes of the Thalmor gaining support of the people.

Except that's not what they want. Ever seen what they've been doing? They want lower standards for women and less rights for men.

Right, but those real-life examples didn't have much support from the people they were open about subjugating. None of us are elves, are we? I guess if the Thalmor were a little quiet about their complete hatred and disgust of humanity, then it would work. But... they're not.


I'll say this, and then I'm dropping it. If somebody is in favor of women's rights they are a feminist. The ones you're talking about are the extreme, vocal minority.

The current crop are determined roleplayers. They should get to have their fun, too.

There have been people who've started "aw, but are the Thalmor really that bad?" threads and these have all quickly wilted under the glare of the facts.

Mind you, I like the Thalmor for their dastardliness and for daring to take Altmer snobbishness to its utter extremes. In a way they're more honest than the empire about what they're doing.

I think you would be surprised at how many people would actually support them.

But a lot of us are playing as elves. Of the people who support the Thalmor, how many play as humans? How many roleplay radical Altmer?

From what I've seen, these forums reflect the real world pretty well. Nords are divided, the vast majority of Thalmor supporters are Altmer with a few Bosmer or Khajiit here and there. Other races choose based on their personal opinions, but politically active Imperials usually join the Legion. Some citizens of the Aldmeri Dominion oppose the Thalmor, either because of the purges or because they don't agree with the direction their provinces are going. Then there are those who are mostly ignorant and pick their side based on a whim or propaganda. If they decide to take part in the forum discussions, they're often steered in the right direction by helpful forumites showering them with historical facts.

Isn't it how people of Tamriel probably feel and behave?

First off its a game so it's ridiculous to "worry" about people supporting a fictionary group. It's all about role playing.

Second, the Thalmor essentially believe they are superior to other races and also have a hatred for Talos being regarded as Divine alongside the Eight. If you (or your character) support either of this then consider yourself a supporter of the Thalmor or atleast a part of their policies
