How can I remove the default dremora face tattoo, add my own

Yeah. I just started getting into the face tattoo part about modding followers.

Some things in the creation kit are straightforward, but hell. I just cant figure out how the dremora get that automatic face tattoo. I'm working on a female summon dremora spell (yes I know there are probably many out there), but hey there's none like mine.

Anyone experienced with face tattooing?

im familiar with making npc mods so feel free to get technical with tintmasks and stuff.

I was just trying to remove it completely, and I vaguely remember that I had to swap the Dremora head for a Dark Elf head. They're the same model with just the texture changed. But that required editing the race formlists to allow a Dremora to "wear" the head.

However, once that's done, if you want a different tattoo, you may then have to associate it with a different list.

I suspect that just browsing the FormLists, and using the Use Info link will explain most of it. They get used for "valid context" settings in the editors a lot. Race to head part, texture to item, etc.

The Dremora get their face tattoo from their head texture. Under TextureSet, look up SkinHeadMaleDremora (or FemaleDremora). Highlight the Detail Map and you'll see it.

Removing that detail map will clear the tattoo, but for every Dremora in the game. So if you only want to do it for your summoned NPC, then I would suggest you duplicate the DremoraRace, as that's where it's defined. Duplicate the TextureSet, clear the detail map (or add your own new one). In the Race record, under the Tinting tab, down in the bottom left in the Face Details Texture Set List. Point it to your new TextureSet.

I have a tutorial on http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/tutorials/article/156-creating-and-adding-new-warpaints/ that might help, though that is slightly different than detail maps.

Sweet, I totally overlooked the detail map. Looks like that did it. Thanks.

was weird though, when I changed the face tattoo I also had to re-export my reshaped face mesh or else my face looked like the vanilla weird face.... (I use nifmerge to make my npc heads).

anyways thanks guys. a 40z to you and your family.

Edit: Hmm I just tried to make a body tattoo... seems like the game goes about that differently.

Any idea how to set up a body tattoo?
