How can Skyrim look this good?

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 3:39 pm

There are two primary reasons why I’m still a pc gamer. 1) Cannot stand to play almost anything with those two f*cking things they call thumb stick. Once you get used to playing with the precision that a mouse can offer there really is no going back. Just being honest here..

PC gamers myself and Skyrim will be Mouse+Keyboard (Nostromo actually). But I still use a gamepad to play Street Fighter IV on my PC. It's a lot more comfortable than using the keyboard. The anologic thumbstick are also a lot better to play vehicule based game (such as planes or cars where you can throttle precisely speed and direction)

Wow it only took 2 minutes for a "Pc kicks 360's ass" reply. That's got to be new.

To be fair, most of us PC gamers have it macro'd

1. Opinions cannot be right or wrong, they are opinions. Not fact based statements. They can however be agreed or disagreed with. (This is a Factual Statement) Saying that a opinion is wrong because you disagree is like saying a religion is wrong because you chose to believe in a different one. It's silly and pretentious.

2. Xbox 360's uses dual layer DVDs not the standard DVDs. Although some of the cheaper less spacious games do still get put onto standard DVDs.

3. I wouldn't necessarily consider Oblivion on the 360 as poor looking, considering the time that was spent preparing it to the amount of time the console was available. Fallout however...was terrible.

4. BOTH 360 and PS3 are outdated tech. Until they can keep up with the PC, they will always be out dated.

5. It's looking good on the 360 (even with it on a single DUAL LAYER DVD) because we have seen some very impressive compression tech in the last few years. It's amazing what these guys are accomplishing.

Here's to hoping those graphics don't cause any problems with the consoles.

Just wait, the day of launch there will be multiple threads with people saying that Skyrim killed their 360

I agree with you 100%. Thats why I said cannot ALMOST play with the thumb sticks. They still serve a purpose. Even though it's a very limited one.

Likely because it's true?

There is literally no objective reason one could prefer the 360 over the PC (assuming they have a PC of decent power). Like playing with a controller? You can do that on the PC. The graphics are better, and you can mod out things you dislike. It's an all around slam-dunk win for the PC.

While I personally consider the PC to be better than consoles in almost every way, I find the phrase "objective reason one could prefer" to be amusing.

I know you're just dying to start a flame war. But in this case you will have to conduct it yourself. Goodbye.

You can't start flame wars over undenaible facts

But seriously, yes, it does look pretty good on the 360. I see people complaining about it but the texture resolutions are comparable to other 360 titles and while the draw distances could be better they're acceptable. The fog and the lighting effects we've seen though... hoo boy. They're [censored] incredible. I'm excited about how good this game will look out of the box on my machine. And when I think about future mods that will make it look even better... Well, frankly I think that for once I'll be happy with a TES game, visually speaking, right out of the box for once.

I should reinstall Morrowind and follow Knots's modding guide. It's been too long.

From a technical perspective, sure, but the person quoted said that Skyrim was the 'best looking' game they'd seen. 'Good looking' is an inherently subjective trait.

If someone says Oblivion is the best looking game they'd seen then of course that is true for them but then "you must not have seen a lot of games" is valid comment on that. Clearly skyrim would be the better looking game in all respects.

Likely, but not certainly. Taste is subjective.

Seeing as the 360 graphics are literally http://twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon/status/124153952416698368 I can't see how you'd be surprised. :disguise:

Won't load for me.

There isn't really any reason the 360 version would be superior that cannot be done just as well on PC. You can attatch a controller, chat while playing, connect it to a TV, have better graphics, etc., the only real reason is if you have a crappy PC incapable of doing said things.

Just wait for the PC version and High res texture mods. It will eviscerate the 360 then kicks it ashes skywards, then collect with a butterfly net, combine them together, make toast (very very very burnt toast.), and eat it for health regeneration.

P.S. No offence to the 360 or anything.

This^^

It does look wonderful, but I wouldn't call it the best looking game on 360. It's pretty damn close, though.

Kind of scares me. The fact that it looks this good will probably make it run slow and act like a [censored] all the time. Not looking forward to the frame rate consistently dropping and the overwhelming amount of bugs...

But, [censored], Red Dead looks amazing, is pretty big and rarely ever runs funny on my 360. Still, the hugeness of everything going on in the world and the graphics alone frightens me. But perhaps it is an unfounded paranoia.

Yes, it's about the graphics of the 360 version being the equivalent of low settings on a PC.

That's what I've inferred, anyways. It won't load for me, either.

Skyrim is fueled by the anguished cries of orphan's souls.

That's how they manage it.

Split-screen is much simpler for consoles, PC versions of games are more likely to have problems than console versions, hell, you could even simply prefer the console case to that of a PC. My point is that you're speaking of preferences, and the reasons for a given preference are inherently subjective.

Every time I see a new image of Skyrim, this same question comes to mind; everytime. Regardless if its on PC or 360.

Ehm. The 360's version of Crysis e.g actually looks really good(Not like the PC-version oc). Of course can the 360 handle these Skyrim-graphics, even though the PC-version will look better.

This is the second time I've had someone tell me that a Twitter link I've posted won't load for them. It loads perfectly fine for me, even if I close my browser and re-open it (cache clears automatically). What's the deal?

I just recently looked through all of the released screens, and sufice it be to say, I was impressed. I am suprised to say that it is actually one of the best looking games I have seen.

I will also direct the argumentative types to the concepts of art style and overall aesthetic impact. Do they compute?

It won't load for me, because I'm on my PS3. The PS3 can't handle Twitter. DB1 comes here on his PS3 too, not always though.

When this game is set to low graphics its already one of the 2 best looking games i've ever seen (the other is witcher 2 which is the only game i can find that i consider competitive against skyrim graphic wise) i'm beginning to wonder how glorious it'll be when i set it to maximum.
also wondering if i can set it to maximum. theoretically yes, but factually i wonder.

and mods will make this game look even better.
