How to Clean Boot XP for Fallout

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:48 pm

I don't mean a clean boot. What I mean is, I need to restart XP with no extrenuous programs so that I can play Fallout 2 without having to worry about any errors. How do I do it?

Nevermind, I found a solution for the intrusive graphics problems in Fallout 1 and 2:

Next click start, and the click run. Type in msconfig and hit enter. At the top there are several tabs. Click the right-most one marked "Startup". There is a buttom marked "Disable All" located on the bottom-right just above the button marked "Help". Click on "Disable All" then "Apply" and "Ok". You will need to restart your computer.

I'm a bit confused from the disparity between the post and your title. Did you want instructions for a clean boot or not? Regardless, what you're describing as the solution you found is just that, a clean boot.

I'm sorry, I'm just a mixed up person today because I am so excited to play Fallout 2 that I pee-pee'd all over myself. But thank you anyway for the info - I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.

The process that I quoted may or may not be a clean boot, is something that necessarily has to be done in order to prevent a persistent graphics glitch when playing Fallout 1 on XP.

I'm having another problem and I will start a new topic for it, as I think it might be of use to others who want to play Fallout 2 on XP.

Ah, I see. Well good luck.

Incidentally, I haven't noticed any graphic issues with Fallout or Fallout 2 on Windows XP but that may be because I'm using the versions from http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/
