how come no gumpowder in Elder Scrolls yet?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:29 am

well it would be fun to get some kind of unique experimental dwemer gun (like a steam canon)...

but what i think they REALLY should implement is
A) more distance weapons namely: crossbows, throwing weapons and grenades (should also be in the alchemy tree)
B.) more melee weapons like spears, polearms, 11/2h swords, exotic weapons etc.

and they should also have a lot more armors and skins for armors...why not 5 different armors which are on the "same level" - it was in morrowind like this...there are i think 3-4 different fur armors but after that always only 1 version or 2 versions with VERY minor differences...

The Elder Scrolls series is based in the fantasy world of Nird, in which guns do not exist. That's one of the big reasons why I get the elder scrolls games, because there are no guns. Why spoil such a great game series by adding guns?

But think of an automatic rifle that could fire fireballs 1 after the other in rapid succession xD

why are people happy with the same exact thing everytime in games? people honestly don't want to see minor improvements to the world if they are going to make time pass between the game? it just seems silly to me. It only makes sense to show some kind of growth in the world.

Automatic weapons with bullets and all that stuff doesn't belong in The Elder Scrolls.

Well spoken. :)

That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

No more stupid than wanting guns in an Elder Scrolls game. >.>

Yuck. No. :flamethrower: guns in TES

I don't mind that perks found their way from FO3 to Tamriel. Please don't let guns make that trip.

:tes: without guns.
:fallout: with guns.

But gum powder would so help to prevent tooth decay.

It would...and besides gumpowder can't possibly burn well ;)

That would be the day TES dies.

why would it be the day TES dies? you wouldn't be forced to use them just add another element to the game.

And each game is based in vastly different regions of Tamriel, so if such advancement in technology were to happen, it may not even reach the region you're playing in.

Magic basically.

Firearms in the real world came from the experiemts Alchemists and 'Wizards' made with the various elements that would later comprise gunpowder.

In fact, the effect of the gunpowder explosions make would likely have been seen as magic by the uneducated and that misconception likely played upon.

In the Elder Scrolls world, those same Alchemists and Wizards actually have access to real magic. Magic far superior to anything a basic firearm could match. It's feasible that someone 'could' discover gunpowder and invent a primitive gun. However, when even a poor man could trade a few goods for a scroll that unleashes a firestorm, why bother?

edit: Cannons do exist in TES. In fact, one side quest does involve a ship with a form of cannon mortar judging by the tracjectories involved. But as I say when you can lob fireballs from your hands, why bother with a weapon that has terrible range, was wildly inaccurate, took up to twenty minutes to reload and wouldn't work in the rain or even slightly damp weather.

Who the heck need gunpowder when you have fireball.

Would can have been invented if you had fresh food anywhere you go ?

anyway:

Firearms are designed for idiots, no skill required.

Yes this

Fireballs are also much more dramatic then shooting a gun. No idea why they ever consider it. This is a fantasy and guns need to remain out forever. If anybody feels the need for shooting things there are arrows and magic for that.

So no guns ever! :yucky:

People used swords for a lot longer than guns have been around, and we don't even have magic. Maybe the Elder Scrolls universe is going through a dark ages period/lost century where cataclysmic events have slowed technological progress. Plus, 200 years isn't that long in the grand scheme of things.

Muskets aren't automatic weapons they take time to reload. You don't think it's weird to move a game up 200 years and not show minor improvements to the world? you think they should keep doing the same thing every single game?

no, because it took us up until 700 AD to master gunpowder, and up to the 12th century for the very first musket.

Well, in my opinion guns in the elder scrolls would just spoil the theme of swords and magic that every true elder scrolls fan loves.

forget the guns...but they really should include crossbows...

its unrealistic to have a game with bows and steel weapons but not crossbows, regardless of magic or dwemer or anything

besides, the magic argument doesnt really count for not having technology, if this was true, why would anyone use a bow?

Actually you kind of would be forced to use them. You're enemies would have them right?
If I want guns in TES, I will go play Fallout.

Before we even think about guns we have to go through crossbows. I personally do not want guns in TES, I like the high fantasy style and I do not wish it to become any more "real".
