How come so many players come from SWTOR?

Post » Wed Feb 05, 2014 9:14 am

I never heard of this MMO before I joined in the GW2 bandwagon. There were many people on that MMO who came from SWTOR and it seems to be the same case here for TESO, from what I hear.

There are also many players from LOTRO or WoW... but is no one out there from the other MMOs? There's so many of them and quite a lot that have more players, is there some kind of exodus happening that I have missed?

Not critiscising, just curious.

Check my sig for my history.

As far as the MMOs you have mentioned. At some time or another they all had a large player base therefore people who like MMO's (me for example) will have tried a large number of them over the years.

You do have some more variety than other people I see, but I don't see, for example, a mass group of TERA / Rift / Aion / WoW fans moving in like I see SWTOR fans.

Probably because SWTOR was the "last big thing" that went f2p, and a lot of people have probably been biding their time there in f2p land waiting for the "next big thing" to come along.

SWTOR does have something in common with ESO, actually: they're both based on single-player RPG series (fewer people played KOTOR than TES, but they were excellent games). Both MMOs released with a deep main questline that can be soloed, basically a single-player RPG embedded in an MMO.

It's much better integrated in ESO, but I am not surprised that the two games would attract the same kinds of players.

I played SWTOR for about a year but quit when it went F2P. I played LOTRO for 5 years, I LOVE that game so much, but all the monetization made me quit.

I played SWTOR for the first full year of it's life. I quit mainly because the raid team I ran with practically quit right as F2P came.

I played DDO for several years, started before it went f2p, and enjoyed how they did their f2p system.

Played Tera for a while, but it couldn't keep me. Tried Dragon Prophecy, Guild Wars, Anarchy, Eve, nothing really kept me. Even tried Rift for 1 hour.
