how come no one is using microsoft sam for their mods?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:53 am

was just wondering cause modders that make quest mods are always wanting people to do voices for them and many times it ends up being cut from the mod or not planned on from the get go cause of the added difficulty. this would be a perfect solution since you could do this on your own.

I think I'd start getting frustrated over being reminded of QA testing (redundancy) and all of those automated customer service calls... (Why don't they give us a stinking SKIP option? I know that the test, which I have already performed, is not going to help. GEEZ!!...)

It would be so awesome. "HELP HELP MEH-ROON-EZZ DAY-GON IS BACK. GO TO KIV ATCH TO SAVE THE HE-AIR TO THE THRONE!"

Actually I think the paperclip guy would be better. "I see you're trying to find Nirntoots; can I help?" "If you are having trouble slaying the minotaur, click here!" "For help with ghosts, follow the link to buy silver weapons." Thank you Microsoft.

Good question. Licensing issues? Maybe?

 any chance I can get to voice act I am willing to take up. I have studied acting for awhile...not the best at it, but it gets me by. I have been cast in small no-one-cares youtube videos. And as of a few days ago, now own a studio quality microphone for just such a voice-over occasion.

However, I think the first response explains it all...I could not take it seriously. I mean just imagine the opening scene of Oblivion but instead of voiced over by the guy who voices the emperor, with Microsoft Sam. I am laughing just thinking about it. If you ever even seen a clip of Arby n' Chief you will never be able to even at the slightest take Microsoft Sam serious.

No voice acting is always better than poor voice acting. Sam deffinately qualifies as 'bad' voice acting :P

Agreed. Microsoft Sam is not Morgan Freeman or Gene Hackman. It would be funny though.

Whether poor Sammy is a good voice actor or not, you could at least always state you have a famous voice actor on your mod's features' list if you pick him. :celebration:

I believe my editing software can open up the original video files! So I am going modify the original opening video when you start a new game...but with Microsoft Sam...just so you get the feel why people don't use him :P the link will be up soon.

edit:

well...my software is giving me troubles, so maybe not....oh well.

Meh-heh-heh, mission accomplished :shifty:

Microsoft Sam is not Morgan Freeman or Gene Hackman.

Don't ruin the magic for me

for anyone who cares, I finished the little joke mod. Ofcourse i am being careful about retaining video quality, as all the converting and compressing to the video will do quite an impact on it. Nonetheless, I successfully switched it from a .bik format to an avi (semi compression ratio) and made changes to the file. After changes I rendered the video into a uncompressed .avi file and currently it is being recompressed into a .bik file to be able to be used in Oblivion.
I completely switched out all of the emperor's lines using Microsoft Sam...and I have to say it is rather entertaining. Also, it was fun turning on both Uriel's lines and Sam at the same time - which I had to do anyways to sync the lines as best as possible. The entire opening video is EXACTLY the same (maybe :ninja: ) except for changing Uriel's lines to Sam. There is about 10 minutes left on the compression, so look back at this post for a link in about 20 minutes (have to make the Nexus page for it) or if someone else replied after me than I will have the link posted there - for those who REALLY care about this pointless mod.

EDIT:
I kept it in a widescreen format but due to the constant uncompressing, recompressing, and so forth, the pixel ratio may not be HD quality.

On a serious note, text-to-speech programs are actually becoming way more advanced. There are still quite a few stutters here and there, but it's almost lifelike.
Once it's all the way there, imagine how much potential it will unlock in modding!

They're getting more inflections in tone, and it's getting a lot smoother. Huge improvement from Sammy.

wow...upload on Nexus is going INCREDIBLY slow for some reason...my predicted time is way off, and I am sorry about that...I guess I will make a [relz] thread for this mod...which is totally unnecessary, but, atleast everyone can laugh. maybe if this topic is still alive tomorrow (or whenever the upload is done) then I will post the link.
