How could they do this?

Why, why would they make it the same as consoles. The reason we bought our damn $1000+ PC's is so that we could get 10x better visuals and performance. How could they do this? This is total crap. Consoles are ruining everything for the PC gamer. Crysis, Dragon Age, Battlefield, Fear, Doom, now the greatest game ever. No, no its not fair. We should have better graphics, we should have dx11 support, we payed for it, we deserve it. This is crap. I'm writing an email to Bethesda, I cannot let this stand.

The average PC gamer is a sheep, that will buy the latest cards and processors when there are no games that use them properly.

Kind of, but there's a place for bad people in the world. ;)

Hm. Seems like the "random console vs. PC flamewar generator" needs a tuneup, it's getting too predictable.

As a console gamer, I agree. They did pay all that money, might as well have it look better for them. As long as it doesnt gimp my experience. Although Im not sure thats what that article said exactly.

Try reading it again.

It will look the same BASED ON DISTANCE.

On the consoles with smaller texture size and lower resolution where players are generally sat several feet from the screen, it will look the same as the PC with it's larger texture size and higher resolutions and the player sat far closer to their monitor.

If a console player moves closer to the screen it will of course, not look as good as the PC version.

edit: Also show me a game where there really is that singificant a difference between the PC and console versions/

Wow. This is the most arrogant thread I've ever read, and I play video games almost exclusively on the PC.

You paid for a bunch of hardware. You are not entitled to nor do you deserve anything from anyone. If a game company wants to release an 8-bit 2D game for the PC, they can. No one made you buy those things. You didn't pay for Skyrim to have better graphics than consoles, you paid for your PC to be able to handle things like that, which was your own decision.

Hey if you want to play skyrim in dx9, at medium settings, go ahead.

lol I hope not that means I'm in the same boat.

I laughed my ass off when I read "No, no it's not fair." Like a petulant little child.

Here's an idea, how about you find something better to spend $1,000 on? I can't believe anyone would pay that ludicrous amount of money to play video games. Constantly updating video cards, sound cards, this and that spending buckets of money all for what? Video games.

I spent like $200 on my 360 and love it. Then again, I'm not a supernerd who needs to be immersed into some fantasy world and have it look so real that I think I'm looking out my window. Give me a game, let me play it for a bit and have some fun, and that's it.

The dead horse that I'm flogging is telling me that this game isn't just about the graphics - the pc user will also get mods, which will include texture replacers and enhancers. New sounds, animations, adventures, weapons and outfits. The Nehrim guys will whip something amazing up, as will oscuro, martigen and the others (sorry for those I neglected.) We will also get boobs, anime, guns and cliff racers. All this for the low low price of nothing! We'll be able to use the xbox controller if we wish, or use the much better combo of keyboard and mouse. As the years roll on and the consoles are replaced by new ones that aren't retro compatible, our game will still work on our new computers.
In short, don't worry about the fact that Bethesda isn't taxing your fancy new computer. Enjoy the game and all you have to look forward to.

As you have a PC, you also have the obvious route of the community to turn to for graphics boosts. Where Morrowind looks like crap on any Xbox, it is now up to par with any current game on the PC. (That is, unless you switch to 3rd person view... Uerrrrgh)

If someone wants to do so, they can. Not every PC owner has some kind of super rig whose specs far, far exceed requirements for the next few years.

Most of us are playing on systems that are medium to high end as opposed to extreme high end.

Thanks! I actually really appreciate when PC games include lesser graphics along with their DX11. It makes it so people don't have to buy a new PC every year just to keep up with the times, thus allowing a wider audience to buy their product!

And again, as stated numerous times already, Skyrim will have DX11 support.

And even if it didn't, come on, it's not like Skyrim looks bad by any stretch of the imagination.

EDIT: I'd also like to say that "you have mods" is a terrible argument. The vast majority of players aren't going to play through Skyrim with mods, especially not the first time through.

No the average PC gamer has several year old hardware. It's the minority of those that pump thousands into PCs every few years and only the most vocal of those with entitlement issues that are "sheep" as you say. They think because they spend more money that they deserve better regardless of how much of a minority they represent.

You have to spend a ton of money to have very powerful PC hardware. You do not have to spend a ton of money all the time to game on the PC.

It will be funny if Nintendo's new console gets an improved version of Skyrim though. They should patch the PC version of the game if they do that. It's more likely if it gets it it will just get a higher resolution port though.

True, very true it looks very, very good and thats on the Xbox. Higher resolutions and bigger texture size should result in -at the very least- a pleasing visual experience on PC>

We do actually. I get you but don't freak out. If the game looks liek this on a 360 I wonder how it will look like Maxed Out on the PC and later on Maxed Out AND fully modded

Asked specifically whether he feels if consoles are holding PC gaming back, Bach replied “Yes, Absolutely”, and added “That’s the biggest problem we have today”. He went on, saying that most games are made for the lowest common denominator (i.e. consoles), and that console games are generally ported to the PC with some higher resolution textures. Bach stressed that DICE is doing the opposite with Battlefield 3 — the PC version is the lead version and the console versions will be scaled down, as opposed to console version being scaled up to the PC.

it would have no impact on me if they said that the graphics would stay the same as OB, look up the definition of astetic. I am more concerned about content and gameplay.

Show me actual game play rather than more pretty pretties and I'll buy the argument that consoles are holding games back. More pretty pretties are nice (I am looking forward to hearing about Nintendo's new console after all) but it's the game that matters to me and the PS3/Xbox 360 are at the "good enough" point for me.

This is great news...
My PC is crappy and i'm not spending 1000s of dollars to buy a new PC. But still, you guys have all the mods unlike us console gamers, mods give the game well over 10x the amount of gameplay you would get on a console.
There is no need to be so arrogant... At least no one will be complaining about my "terrible console graphics" when i start my elder scrolls 5 commentary channel on youtube.

For starters, i doubt you'd ever need 1000's.

Secondly, just lower the settings, don't doom the people with good PCs.
