How to create a beachcoast line in a tub?

For a video I am making for work for a toy boat, they want a beach/coast line made in a tub for the boat to be next to. I like the idea, but I have no clue how I'm going to actually make the beach so the sand doesn't just get swallowed up by the water.

My first idea is to fill up the tub with play sand (the kind you put in a sandbox ($4.50 for a 50lbs bag), saturate it with water, scoop out sand for the "ocean", then pour water back in. I think it should work, but I don't want to be buying a ton of sand if I don't have to.

My second idea is to make a divider of some sort so stop the water and sand from actually touching, maybe saturate the sand beforehand. I'm worried that water may overflow or the divider will leak.

Anyone else do anything like this or have any ideas that sound a bit more full-proof? Thanks!

Just go to the beach and put some sand in a bag. No need to pay money for sand. Why pay for play sand when you can go get authentic beach sand?
