How To Create "Supply Line" Between Settlements?

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2016 11:00 pm

Oblivion: 2000 hours

FO3: 1000 hours

FO NV: 1000 hours

Skyrim: 3000 hours

...and you'd think I could just jump into FO4 and figure it all out, right?

This "Settlement" thing is not intuitive! Nowhere does it say how to do stuff.

There's no Owner's Manual for this game!

I spent one of my precious perks, to be able to do this (link the settlements).

Some of the settlements are already linked? I go into the Workshop and things 'deposited' in other places are in there.

But in newer settlements, they're not.

Huh...?

So I guess I need to create this Supply Line.

HOW exactly are you supposed to do that?

And why does Beth assume this old man is going to already know how?

How can some settlements be already linked, without me doing it? It's bloody inconsistent.

Oh man, I'm flooded with things to do...

This guy Preston just won't shut up. He has a never-ending supply of tasks for me (the Wiki says they are, in fact, never-ending).

I have just now reached Diamond City - after ~50 hours, heheh.

Progress is slow! But I first need to get these dang Supply Lines going...

Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

1. You need to have the City Leader perk (level 1 I think)

2. open the workshop interface, walk to a settler and you will see on the bottom the button you need to press to start a supply line (you build the supply line by having a settler travel between two settlements)

3. you can now also check your supply lines by opening the map. There, you will see on the bottom which button you need to press to get a map of supply lines

Yes, they really could have done a better tutorial for this.

Yes local leader 1 is required for supply lines.

activate build interface and assign him to supply line.

This don't work for all settlers, some named ones is involved in quests and can not be assigned same with some unnamed ones I think.

Setler will then move between the two settlements, he can be atacked and die if in the same cell as you so arm and armor him well. He will be named provider then you see him.

You can link any way you want, any direction and all linked will be connected even if connected in an chain.

Tips it might be smart to not run the provider in an direction of an nearby enemy stronghold. Going east from the slog will run in into the ironwork where he will be attacked by forged if you are in the settlement then he arrives or leaves.

don't need to use supply lines. strong bank rank 4 will allow carrying everything stored at a work bunch and fast travel. so why have supply lines?

  1. If you don't have ST of 6, not an option.

  2. Who the hell wants to have to sort through all that garbage every time you go into your inventory?? That would drive me nuts.

Actual, I do get used to dump everything in the Workshop now.

Before that, I built containers for different types of equipment and supplies, which took ages to sort and they were only available in one settlement. You could also not access it from any crafting station in any settlement (you have a supply line to).

it is easy. just take everything in a work bench and then dump all junk back into the main work bench. no need to sort. perhaps for old money and smokes.

So carry-n-drop junks from one settlement to another everytime you want to craft something is more efficient than going to any settlement and craft anything, anytime you want, without the need to go back and forth to carry-n-drop your resources? lol.

On topic:

- Go to one of your settlement

- Enter your workshop mode

- highlight a unnamed/unique settler, not special ones like Sturges, the Longs, and the Abernathies

- You should see the button to do "SUPPLY LINE"

- You should now see a list of your settlements, select one you want to share resources

- Now the linked settlement will share resources stored in each

- You can do this in Centralized method (Sanctuary > Red Rocket, Sanctuary > Abernathy, Sanctuary > Tenpines)

- Or you can also do this in Branching method (Sanctuary > Red Rocket > Abernathy > so on)
