Hmmm... it's not jut related to the other thread, it's pretty much the same thing. I'm just saying, don't be surprised if someone gets after you for cross-posting.

But really, your question was answered already regarding the compass. If you are now wanting to try to learn XML, then you are in the wrong forum. Plenty of people here know XML, but teaching it and other languages is not the point of this place. XML is easy to learn; Google it and you will find a zillion tutorials.

Actually this is now the 3rd thread for the same topic, he started another one on the the CS forum, too. No reason for that.

Just my opinion, but it seems like vegyabill and mcc84 are flaming the thread starter. Not only are they not answering his question properly but it seems, from my observation, they are trying to stir an argument.

Mods, I think a warning for posting off-topic/inflammatory postings may be in order. Moreso for mcc84 as his/her post was not adding anything here other than to rile the OP.

In regards to the thread starter, making an xml file is too difficult, you probably won't find one person on here who could explain how.

I suggested a solution in the other thread he started, but thank you for your opinion.

We are talking about THIS thread.

Sorry, but I call BS where I see it. You didn't need to post in here just to complain about the thread-starter. There is no need to be rude especially to new players who haven't as much experience as more seasoned veterans.

Benson1, you have much to learn. Forum etiquette would be a good place to start.

This is laughable. And potentially insulting, but I will not go there.

BosmerFTW , do as I say and Google an XML tutorial, if you are serious about wanting to learn it. It is among the simplest of languages, seriously. Once you have some basics under your belt, someone can show you how it applies to your original question (perhaps even me).

Can't you just use a UI mod?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I had the option to remove the compass when I installed one before. The name slips my mind however.

This is why we don't start 3 threads about the same topic. You are correct, a UI mod would make removing the compass easy. BosmerFTW seems to be set on doing it himself, which is commendable, but probably more trouble then it is worth for somebody not familiar with the basics.

Yes, and he has been told that. Being impatient.

BosmerFTW, you either misunderstood, or you are selectively listening. Either way, no one is going to tell you or your cousin how to write an XML file to get rid of the compass. You have all the pieces to this puzzle between your several threads on this. Time to do some learning on your own. Listen to what people have told you. Get DarNified UI, or figure something else out. (hint: figuring something else out will take you a very long time)

And you don't need to post in here simply to chastise other posters. If anyone should be warned it's you. Your comments are clearly inflammatory and totally unnecessary, and obviously meant to start an argument. The OP has been given an answer in another thread, there was absolutely no need to start another one on the same topic. vegtabill and mcc84 were totally justified in calling him on it. Had a moderator beaten them to this thread, it would already have been shut down. I'm not even sure why you're jumping in here, has no one ever mentioned anything to you about minding your own business? You didn't even have anything constructive to add the OP's query. Of course there is someone here who could explain how to do it. DarN himself drops by now and then after all, and he's certainly not the only person in the world who understands XML. But what the OP is asking for goes way beyond what is possible to share in a game forum. He's going to have to do alot of work on his own before he can even attempt to do what he wants to. There's no simple solution that can be given quickly, it requires a good understanding of the XML programming language. Which means working with it for some time.

Why not download a UI mod then a look at the XML files it installs. Form that, you can figure out how to remove it yourself.

If he knows how to do XML then he doesn't need to be told how to do it, he'll be able to figure out. Just have him look at what DarN has done in his mod and he can take from there, if his understanding of the language is good enough. You don't even need to install it, just unpack the file and open up the file that has been mentioned to you, hud_main_menu.xml, or whatever it's called.

And then when Bosmer said he actually had someone who had the basics of xml covered, YOU Vegtabill backtracked and showed yourself up to be quite false, didn't you? :)

Forget it Bosmer, no one here knows how to make an xml file to disable a compass. Some just won't admit they don't know though.

I doubt his 'cousin' is actually with him myself. I think he's just asking to be spoon fed the whole thing.

Bosmer, download that mod and you'll be fine. If you're interested in learning the XML part of it have your cousin look through that mods files and puzzle it all out. XML is a very in-depth subject and beyond the scope of this board.

Benson, you're out of line. Next time, unless you have something to actually contribute to a thread I suggest you stay out of it.

Wow! Benson just joined and already seems very knowledgable about the intelligence of the modders here as well as cross posting forum ethics! Not only that: he also has some amazing advice for the OP!

Don't try to start a flame war here by trying to lecture people about forum rules you are obviously unaware of and trying to mask that by giving some half baked advice for the OP in the end.

BosmerFTW: There are plenty of modders with XML experience here that have released several UI mods, you just need to wait until someone picks up your question at the CS forum.

Good Lord, he only joined yesterday! He's off to a good start isn't he? Take my advice Benson and cool it or you're going to end up on everyone's ignore list, making it a complete waste of time for you to come here. You had absolutely no business jumping in the way you did and your attitude is not appreciated.

Too many people here are masking their lack of knowledge with 'go and do a google search' or 'download this mod'. I'm sorry to say this, but they won't (it's probably pride) admit they don't actually know what to do. Just be honest guys, if you don't know the answer just say so.

Again, Bosmer, if anyone knew the answer to your question it would have been answered (with scripts/code added to the explanation).

Oh and look at all the anti-Benson posts. Just because I exposed your buddy Vegtabill when he said he would help, then backtracked out of his promise, you all turn on the new member (me). So as well as not helping with the OP's question, they also don't like being corrected on their BS. Interesting.

Hmmm, you mean like http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106906-remove-compass-completely/page__p__16209063__fromsearch__1&#entry16209063?

Benson1, you don't know what you are talking about, you are looking very foolish, and you are making people angry. Knock it off.

That code was based on someone having already downloaded some mod (I forget the name). It wasn't a bare bones script you could just add. If it was, I want to see this explicitly stated as such.

Actually, I find this topic very interesting and I'm wondering just how many people can actually answer this question. It seems like no one can.

And you did say you'd help Bosmer had he got some knowledge in xml. He stated his cousin (who has an understanding of xml) is with him right now yet you refuse to help. Hot air methinks. Hot air indeed!
