How To Deactivate The Damn Blur?!

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 3:48 pm

I'm using Advanced Graphics Options v1.7 and set everything to extreme except for sys_spec_gameeffects and sys_spec_postprocessing which I set to 0 in hope that it would deactivate the ****ing blurriness which is ruining the ****ing graphics of this game. It made it more tolerable but the blurriness is still there.

Seriously, who the **** came up with the idea of making everything blurry as if someone had just hit you right across the face with a 2x4?!

Any tips on how to remove it completely so the game looks nice and crisp the way it should?

GameEffects are corpses and some unspecified dust effects. Post processing is indeed the right setting but you'll also disable a lot of other eye candy beyond the "blur". You should use a setting of 1 anyway, 0 probably just makes it use the default which is the same as max.

The exact command you're looking for is, I think r_PostMSAA. Not sure about it, and if it works at all you'll want to put it in an autoexec.cfg file in the top install folder to make it happen. Or as +r_postmsaa 0 in a shortcut? Not sure.

I think the real killer is the post effect the creates film grain. It very fine and makes the image blurrier but noisey. However, it not noticeable on an HDTV mainly because of distance.

Film grain effects add no blur. It does make it slightly noisier like real video would be however. That's the point.

But it directly affects the sharpness of the textures.

No. It just puts grain on top of them.

No. It just puts grain on top of them.

Film grain is distortion and distortion affects the original textures.

I understand that Crytek had to hide a lot of details behind the blur filters on consoles because of their technical limitations. And it's not all that noticable if you're sitting 10 feet away.

But this is the PC we're talking about and my machine can handle this game + MSAA just fine. But I only get the choice between AA + ****ing blur or no AA, less blur and ragged edges all over the place.

If it were some minor detail I could ignore it but the blurriness dominates the whole picture making it utterly impossible for me to enjoy the graphics and the game as a whole.

Screw you Crytek. Hopefully you will remember one day where the hell you came from.

Can't you just force MSAA in the drivers then?

Nope. I tried but there was no change to the image quality. Using a GTX 260 + 266.58 drivers btw.

Am I missing the obvious ? Isn't the option for Motion Blur the option you want to turn off ? or are you saying that it doesn't work when you set it ? If it's the same blur I turned off, it worked in 1.5 of the AGO

Turning off motion blur was the first thing I did. It was simply too extreme.

We're talking about r_PostMSAA. It smoothes the edges but also adds a terrible blur filter to the picture. And without it you have horribly rendered edges.

Both aren't acceptable.

But hey, this game has far more serious issues. Any idiot can hack this game in seconds, and people can play online with cracked copies. Last game I bought from Crytek anyway so screw the whole thing.
