How to deal with a depressing thanksgiving.

Post » Tue Nov 25, 2014 11:10 am

Well this is my first year without my mom on thanksgiving. She always made the food and such.

My dad wants everyone there but knowing him and cooking itll probably just be kfc or something, but that doesnt matter.

It'll probably be really depressing because my dads still no where near over it.

how can i deal with it?

You could offer to help with dinner and cook it as a family?

Maybe you could all share your favourite stories of her around the table? It's tempting when you lose somebody to avoid bringing them up at a time like that, in case you dampen the mood...when actually, once you've passed that initial low part, you'll all pick yourselves up and come together in ensuring she's there in spirit.

The only one who ever had cooking skills in our family was my mom and my brother, and my brother is currently overseas.

It doesn't need to be a Gordon Ramsay special mate - fail at it together! :)

Sorry for your loss, my condolences. Just being with your dad will help him as well as you get through what must be a difficult time. If it kfc, so be it as long as you get through it together my friend.

I dealt with something similar. Back in Kenya, I have 9 siblings so our Christmas dinners and whatnot were so insanely fun. When I came to the United States, I only had myself, and I was, and still am, homesick around the holidays. Sure, I now have a family of my own, but it still lonely sometimes.

You can always do something that's pretty fool proof, like home made cranberry sauce or cornbread stuffing. There's loads of easy recipes. The former, at its simplest, just means cooking whole cranberries in a cup of water with a cup of sugar dissolved in it with some orange zest, cooked until the berries burst and are soft. The latter just takes cubbed oven dried cornbrean thyme and sage and broth of your choice stuck in the oven until it's a little golden brown.

btw. My condolences too. May she rest in peace, and never forgotten.

Live in peace my friend...

Right here ^^^

This time of year is hard on a lot of folks. The most important thing is family and getting together no matter what. Make the best of what you have.

I don't know ya but have a happy turkey day anyways!!
