How to deal with Valen Dreth

Post » Tue Jun 21, 2011 1:46 am

Okay, we've all started Oblvion, (hopefully) created a nice, good-looking character, then, just as you're about to prance about in your jail cell, you hear him.
Putting you down, making you feel horrible, 'Why did you choose to be a Breton? You loser!' - VALEN DRETH
So, how do you deal out with this frustration?

As everyone did? Killed him on that one mission for the Dark Brotherhood.

I put an arrow in his face when I was asked to assassinat him by the DB.

I actually really liked this quest because it took me back to the start of the game after about 150 hours and reminded me what an [censored] he was. Revenge is well worth the wait.

Not really relevant to this section of the forum.

But ... if you really want to know, I typed in TLC in the console and killed him with my fists.

An excerpt from Episode 2.1 of Buffy's Journal:

* * *
"Look at the pretty little twig," he crooned with an evil grin, "how's it feel to know you'll never dance among the trees of your precious forests again? The guards will be coming for you soon." He laughed cruelly and his voice turned harsh. "Yes, that's right - you're going to die in here, wood elf."

I sat down at the little wooden table in my cell and began to cry.

Shortly, I heard voices, and the metallic jingle and clank of armor approaching. Oh please Mara, don't let that Dunmer be right. Let them pass me by; I am but a small, insignificant she-elf.

After joining the Dark Brotherhood I was so thrilled when I found out I got to kill him!

I remember that day just like it was yesterday. I was standing right in front of his cell, he was standing right behind the bars just close enough that I could put my arms through and grab him. It was dark, I could barley see his face and he mine. I didn't want to take out a torch or the guards would have noticed me. I was talking with him, he remembered me, told me his story, but I wasn't really paying any attention. After the nimrod stopped yapping, I'll pulled out my dagger (yea, they gave me a key, but I didn't need it) and then with one swing I slashed him right in the face. Due to the great power of my blow, he had flown back, hitting the wall and falling to the ground in great agony. I still remember that scream. Blood was everywhere, on the wall, the bars, the floor, him, my dagger and my clothes. He was no more.

Best day ever!

Oh, I did punch the prison bars the first time I saw him. I'm pretty sure everyone did. I surprisingly cared more about taking him out than the main quest. After I had done some exploring I decided to go back, retrace my steps and kill him, but the stupid guards locked the sewers. Thank goodness for Sithis and the Dark Brotherhood!

I wish I could add another option to the poll. I would put "Hit the ~ key, click on the gate, type 'unlock', go through, and beat that piece of garbage Valen Dreth to a pulp with my bare hands."

Speaking of waiting, I was losing my mind waiting for those stupid guards to shut up during that quest.

My decrepit avatar took it for what it was worth ... very little ... and let it go at that. Besides, the man said nothing we hadn't already thought of ourselves. (After having viewed a number of 'Let's Play Oblivion' videos on YouTube featuring avatars of different races and genre it is my considered opinion that male Nord taunts are amongst the weakest.) In our version of Cyrodiil that prisoner ... assuming he hasn't been transferred, released, or executed ... still rots in his cell.

I took revenge on old Valen BadBreath by walking out of my cell through a secret passage. The knowledge that he could be free instead of me if we'd been in opposite cells must drive him crazy.
