How did Ringo even end up in Goodsprings?

I was looking at the map of New Vegas and realized that it doesn't really make sense that Ringo would end up in Goodsprings. Since there are mountains to the west of Goodsprings the only way he could have gotten to Goodsrings from California would be to either take Highway 95 or Interstate 15. He said he was jumped by Powder Gangers so he probably came in from the northwest because if he did come through Interstate 15 the Powder Gangsers would not be able to follow him through Mojave Outpost. However, if he came into Nevada on Highway 95 then he would have passed through New Vegas. It would not make sense for him to pass so many outposts and Camp Mccarran to go to Goodsprings.

And he did say he was on the return trip from California to the New Vegas branch. So that would mean when he got jumped he ran and instead of heading toward Camp Mccarran or the Crimson Caravan Company he headed to a small little town in the middle of nowhere. Unless of course he got lost and trekked through the mountains. Though he would have gotten attacked by scorpions, and Cazador's and possibly Great Khans. Overall it doesn't really make sense to me. I hope I worded this right and that it made sense.
