How did the Enclave get into Vault 87. : Fallout 3

I've played through the game countless times but am only now wondering how did The Enclave get into Vault 87? there's no evidence they came through Little LampLight (which I imagine would have caused some conflict if they did) they also couldn't have come through the main entrance due to massive amounts of radiation and mutants.The how did they get in?

They came through little lamplight :/

if you remember after you get in littlelamplight the gate is never close again

and its not very hard to sneak past the kids and for enclave there basically the heavy armour wearing "Storm Troopers" they forced there way in

They came from the direction of the front door. However, radiation notwithstanding, the front door doesn't work. So they either came in from a hatch on the mountaintop, or through another entrance or cave near the front door. The area immediately inside the vault door is not irradiated, despite terminal notes to the contrary, and there's no actual entrances other than the main entrance, but that area is also not supposed to be seen by players (the door opens onto nothingness, when in fact the door shouldn't be able to open at all) so that area as it appears in the game can't be considered canon.

I seem to recall an area through Murder Pass that opens to the outside, but I may be misremembering or completely full of crap. :shrug:

You'd think that, but the game characters aren't as dynamic as you think they are. No one realizes Tenpenny is dead if you kill him for example.

Maybe the Enclave intimidated them into being quiet? Or they snuck through Lamplight at night and were waiting for you the whole time.

Mr. Crowley seems to know about it later on. I'm curious to see what he'll say when I tell him I killed Tenpenny. I also shot him in the head just so I could get the bigger reward later. Snagged his purty suit, too. It's amusing to wear that outfit along with a bright red baseball cap. Maybe it might look better with Eulogy's hat.

Those power-armored goons would be in for a rough surprise if they started a firefight with the kids... they'd get their asses handed to them, since the kids can't be killed or even damaged.

I once consoled my way through the door where the Enclave come in and found that the door leads to the main door to the outside. Doesn't make any sense since there is enough radiation to kill you in seconds, and the Enclave pride themselves on being pure.

Since they commissioned them, the Enclave has the blueprints of the vaults so they know all the secret entrances.

It is a bit of a plot hole. But it was a deliberate one, the last thing you are expecting is an ambush at that point.
Actually, the Colonel Autumn comment made me think. He injects himself with something to survive your dad floods the chamber with radiation. So it is likely that the Enclave have a Super Secret Rad-X formula that special ops groups get for emergency situations.

They didn't get through Little Lamplight because Autumn lost 2/3 of his men trying only to find out kids are indestructible and than he lost the rest trying to get through vault 87 so the basterd toke about 50 bottlecap mines and blew a hole in the floor to get down! Like today when I set down all my mines...14 bottlecap mines, 18 frag mines, 3 plasma mines i flew some high up.

I can't see kids taking on the Enclave. They probably hid when the soldiers approached Lamplight and the Enclave just marched right in.
