How did Tosh Raka turn into a dragon?

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:03 pm

As fun as it was to meet the Tribunal face to face, it reduced them somehow, you know?

I was impressed by Vivec, through all the legends, and his dialogue was great. Sotha Sil and Almalexia were total letdowns.

That's one reason I hope we never see Akavir. It would be less than it is now.

I don't think we ever will, outside of books.

Vivec impressed me, but his Lessons and his dialogue impressed me more than the physical reality of being in the same room with him. Know what I mean? It's hard to describe. Something was gained but something was lost.

Almalexia was a letdown, but I didn't see enough of Sotha Sil for it to really affect me.

And until we have more we must go on what we have. What we have is that the king of the Tiger People is a Tiger Dragon named Tosh Raka.

Yeah, meeting Vivec in person and realizing he's just this floating two-toned guy you could probably take on and kill just doesn't have the same feeling as what you get from reading about him.

I agree, however, the PC is not just any ordinary person. The PC is literally a god killer.

Which really only helps strengthen the effect.

Well obviously the lore can be greatly biased as well!

Even Vivec backed down when Cyrus took up the pankratosword stance.

Nearly pooped his loincloth.

It's a shame we couldn't meet Vivec in his actual prime as a god, fully charged from the Heart Chamber, maybe in his Giant Form or with his fire-hair. That would have been more epic. What we see is a severely drained, almost mortal person who doesn't even have the strength left to come back to life again if killed.

What's worse and emasculates him even more as a character is that he's straining to use what little remains of his power to maintain the Ghostfence and keep Lie Rock from destroying Vvardenfell, since Almalexia and Sotha Sil abandoned him.

His priests and Ordinators pretty much run completely out of his control and do what they please in his name - probably a lot of stuff he'd never approve of in good conscience. He strikes me as the kind of monarch who is tough, but fair - the best kind of dictator a person possibly could live under, if one finds one's self under such a system of government. All the rooting out of heretics and witches and Daedra worshipers and the like strikes me as more zealotry from the priesthood than actual doctrines passed down from Vivec himself. He seems like he'd be pretty nonchalant about such things in his prime.

Almalexia on the other hand...It's strange how much more powerful she's represented as in-game than Vivec. Do you guys think the ash storms in Mournhold thing had something to do with that? If it caused the people to pray harder and fear her more, would that have literally charged her physical and magical powers back up a bit? Nowhere near her former divine status but perhaps to a level above what most mortals can achieve? That's the best explanation I can think of that she'd be that much stronger than Vivec, besides game mechanic.

I was very impressed with Vivec's in-game portrayal. It admirably accomplished making him feel like a real, deep, psychologically complex man-god, and while it maybe didn't do justice to the concept of him, it certainly wasn't a failure.
His... how do you put it, emasculation? and apparent mortality served to emphasize the severity of the threat Dagoth and the blight posed.
