How did you come up with Your Name?

Post » Thu Sep 22, 2011 2:27 am

Title says it all.

My first characters called Zelezo Divici (iron maiden is Czech, think thats how Czech is spelt). Just put Iron Maiden into google translate and out pops my name.

How did you create yours?

Takes a while to come up with a good one. A good name is important for me to
be able to connect to my character so I can role play him/her. I usually go with
some nature and/or animal combination that sounds good in my own native language
or in native american.

Norforst Altermein was my Nord in Oblivion, and I plan to play his descendant. I like the feel of words and names, iconic spirit and archtype and all that. Plus my last name is Altman, and I imagined a sort of fantastic morphing of my own Germanic surname.

Ademas, I love this name, use it whenever I RP. I even have an amazing story for Ademas. I got it from the WoW random name generator I think. Either that or I just randomly thought it up when making a WoW character.

Hrol. I have no idea how I came up with it, but I later leanred that a character in Oblivion share the name. Might have remembered it, but not remembering it, if that made sense that is.

I usually wait until my character is done, and fit a name to him then.

If all else fails, I use my real life name.

My first character was a dark elf ranger named Drizzt. I don't think that needs any explanation. :P As for my other characters, I usually use Tamriel Rebuilt's http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/index.php?p=modding_data%2Fngen&race=D_ELF&gender=male&count=10

I occasionally come up with non-lore names such as Zayede, Kelandiil & Rai-Zoh through various means.

I usually make my characters based on icons and archtypical themes, when it comes to elven characters I usually go with Aeridolus. Oroboros is a name I've liked to make variations off of, one being Oberon and Oberos. Later I found out Shakespeare stole Oberon from me, the twit.

My female bosmer was named Areas Vilannah. Why? How? I don't know, but I like it.

Brimir is another name for Ymir of the Frost Giants in Norse Mythology. I thought it was appropriate for the environment we'll be in and it just fits the Nord warrior class well imo. His title, Coven-Breaker, is tied to events that took place in his back story.

Henrik, a name i have had for some time which is basically the Norse version 'o my real name! ;)

Normally i name myself Owl on the internets, have been doing so for many (and i do mean many) years, i absolutely luv those creatures and the fact that i saw a reference to them in the trailers or "walkthrough" makes me very exited! :)

Sometimes I use name generator, like for my Altmer Spellsword I went to an elven name generator site, picked various suffix/prefixes relating to "blade", "spell", "magic", etc. and came up with the name Tahlaer Esyldar. Others I had made in other games, like my Imperial Paladin Markkas Corinthal was first the name of my Favored Soul in DDO. Others I just made up, like Sephret Anszim, my Breton Warlock.
