How did you enjoy Honest hearts

Post » Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:41 am

So what would you rate Honest hearts?

I would say a 9/10.

Include what you liked and what you didnt like.

Also what should be improved in the Next DLC.

8/10, I liked finally seeing Joshua Graham, I really enjoyed Randall Clark's story, and the world design was very nice.

I gave it a 7, I loved Clark's story and the addition of the 1911, but I would have liked a few more quests among other things.

I really don't have the patience to type out my thoughts.

I gave it 8. Pretty good story and beautifully rendered area. More stuff to do (aside from lots of wilderness encounters) would have been nice. I just finished the major storyline, but have not left Zion because there are still a couple of caves that I need to find. Once that's done, I'm not sure that the area has any great replay value other than eye-candy. The new weapons were nice, though I doubt that I'll do much more than stick the .45s in my weapons crate, but some of the melee weapons are worthwhile. I did stick with my Spiked Knuckles throughout the whole DLC, so none of the unarmed ones were any great shakes. I liked the Compliance Regulator (I think that's the name), though. The +5 level cap extension was about right. I went in at Level 15 and finished up at almost Level 21. I was a bit disappointed that some of the little game engine problems hadn't been resolved. For example, it was kind of weird to watch Follows-Chalk wading ankle-deep in rock due to clipping issues. And I'm not sure whether it was the DLC or the pre-DLC patch, but the engine seems a bit less stable now. I had several CTDs in the few hours that it took to go through the DLC. We'll see if it continues once I'm back in the Mojave, but if I can conclusively prove that it's the DLC, I'm taking a couple of points off of my rating. Stability problems should not still be around by this late date. The 100-pound limit at the beginning was a nice twist instead of taking everything a la "Dead Money". It probably would have been worse if I'd been playing hardcoe since I'd have had to leave a lot of my ammo behind. Burned through a lot of healing, though. Not quite sure if that's sheer stupidity on my part or because I couldn't take decent armor because of the weight restriction.

Yes. 100 pounds is not a lot to play with in hardcoe. Particularly if you want to bring power armor or use energy weapons.

Combat Armor, 12.7mm pistol and smg and an anti-material rifle are all I took with me. I went in as a lvl 35 so I knew I wouldn't have any problems. Had a few glitches here and there but nothing to bad. I really liked this DLC. Great vistas. I have the explorer perk but it didn't seem to work on this map. Was that suppose to happen?

Gave it an 8. Only lost 2 points for me due to bugs. Especially the "waypoint overwrite" one where undiscovered location markers would disappear as you got close to them.

I liked the characterizations, Joshua Graham was real good, gave a lot of texture to the Legion/Ulysses story, Follows Chalk was fun to travel with.. The survivalist side adventure was a great story.

Love having an non stupid looking 12.7mm weapon, thank you Mr Clark. Love having non faction Desert Combat armor, again thank you Mr. Clark.

Was a nice big and pretty map to explore for a DLC. Even better than Point Lookout in F3 as it wasn't so 2 dimensional.

Looking forward to playing it again with different quest decisions.

9/10

Its only downfall is the lack of a pro Legion/White Leg quest line. It was easy for me to RP past it as my Legion character strongly dislikes Caesar, and tribals (yay me) however I could see it from other pro Legion players view points. It also helps that my character is melee/thrown weapons, and this DLC delivers heavy on the once rare thrown weapon :celebration: .

I also wish they had not made Joshua Graham so nice... I was really looking forward to killing him, and I think I will have a hard time convincing myself to do it even on my 'evil' character.

Onto what I like... Well a lot. Most of all are the NPCs. Hell I liked the people in the caravan (even though our time was short) more then I did the ones in Goodspring. Follows-Chalk is easily my #1 companion out of the whole game, and the female Sorrow's companion would work with my NCR sharpshooter better then Boone ever could.

There's no NCR, Yes Man, House, or Legion benefits at all. Why do people keep complaining about benefits for the legion?

mkay lets try a different angle. The quest seems railroaded. You only have one set path to finish it no real options. Yes you can do quests in a variety of ways, but you must side with Joshua Graham, or else play a very, very short DLC.

The White-Legs are bad no matter what your faction is. Some of us like to Role-Play in this game. Some of us are pro-Legion. We all hear how the only reason the White-Legs are doing this is to join the Legion. Why would a 'normal' pro-Legion character want to kill them? Why would 'normal' pro-Legion character want to do anything, but kill Graham?

Becasue The Burned Man is connected to the Legion as is tribe conquest. It would not make sense to throw some quests for the Legion or atleast some dialogue. I wouldn't make sense for Obsidian/Bethesda to put Mr House in the DLC someway because he has no connection. If Old World Blues featured Mr. Houses brother in some way then it should include him.

There are a bunch (Sorry I can't give you the exact numbers) but only a couple dozen that are really significant. Most indicate a landscape formation or minor site; it's kind of like it was in the Mojave.
There seems to be loot (or Xander Root) of some sort at each marker. The park is riddled with duffle bags; some are hard to find.
When you get a chance to return maybe the Explorer Perk will be working? It may (guessing) have been blocked somehow to increase the challenge during the MQ.

J.E. Sawyer already explained this...

But i liked the DLC. I found that now i HAVE to go to Level 40 is absolutely going to ruin my role play. I dont get why they didnt tweak something to make it so i can put so many skill points on all of my Skills.

i'm looking forward for the next one.

Not true. On either account.

You can also side with Daniel which is NOT siding with Joshua. And it's about the same duration if you help Daniel get the Sorrows out of Zion as it is to go with Joshua and crush the White Legs.

edit: there are a few threads about our enjoyment of HH already... aren't there? Not that I get tired of saying how much I enjoyed it, mind you... 9/10 because I also seemed to have a problem with location markers not showing up before I've discovered them (Red Gate in particular).

10/10 easily the most compelled, awed, and amazed I have ever been by a "video game". Which this was not. This was a work of art.

9/10, easily the best of the FO DLCs (I don't count Broken Steel, which is an extension rather than an add-on), great environment, well balanced enemies set to player level, engaging plot and great back story.

You have to take the perk after installing (not entering mind you) the DLC for it to work. You'll see the locations in your future playthroughs should you take the perk.

I gave it an 8. Main quest could've been longer and more interesting (not the story, the quests themselves).

Based on only one playthrough, I'd give it 7/10.

I really enjoyed Zion, the landscape was awesome and well-realized. The characters were nicely written, especially Joshua. It was also nice to get a free-form DLC, and while I think the famous opening bit where you can accidentally shoot Follows-Chalk is a bit clumsily set up, it's great that the DLC (like the New Vegas main game) allows you to attack and kill whoever you wish.

On the other hand, I would've really liked more meaningful interactions with the characters, some more dialogue overall as well. I also think there was too much fighting overall, too many enemies. So I'd like the balance between dialogues/character interactions vs fighting stuff to be a bit more towards dialogue and non-violent gameplay.

On the whole, I definitely enjoyed it but I think it felt a bit "light-weight". A fun romp to go through but it didn't really leave me going "omg that was so awesome". I'd rate Dead Money a bit higher though it's obviously very different. Dead Money is also way more demanding of the player which can be a bit of a pain at times, but I felt the pay-off and reward after having gone through it was way greater even though I traditionally prefer more open environs like in Honest Hearts. And I really missed the large amounts of character interactions via skills that we saw in Dead Money when I was playing Honest Hearts.

3/10.

The environment was stunning and the rain and night sky, just... Wow... Amazing...
But it was not enough to save it from the bad points.

Happy Trails got swept away too hastily.
The main quest is linear as [censored] with a bunch of "kill/collect #X at Y".
The characters were one dimensional, cliché and just flat out boring.
The choices were minimal.
Couldn't help White Legs.
Graham was changed.
Legion are once again put down. (The Divide & Grahams comments.)
None of the weapons really felt like they were needed, none of them filled a niche, so they're just more useless weapons to pile on top of the other useless weapons.
The story was boring, predictable (Except for Happy Trails fate) and uneventful.
The map was hard to navigate with lots of locations not really serving any purpose at all. (And why the [censored] all those map markers? 70% of them were not needed)
The new perks were plain simply crap. We really need more +damage perks? We're already powerful enough...
And of course the +5 cap was horrible.

And overall, I thought I was playing an RPG? Not a sightseeing game with evil evil evil tribals to kill.
Not many choices, characters, dialogue or interesting places.

So a 3/10 from me.
Not horrible, it was okay, but I wouldn't recommend it nor have bought it in the first place if I knew what I know now.

5/10 for me.
Was very short, lacked the main character's (Joshua/Daniel) interaction, both gave a quest, to which then you never see/hear off them untill the final stages of the DLC..
The side quests were again, short and quick.

I found that i completed this DLC in a matter of hours, rather compared to over a couple of days (same game time) with Dead Money..

+ Randall Dean Clark story was nice
+ You get to free roam over Zion and come back to it
+ New ammo type and great additions to the Guns and Survival skills.

- Short main quest
