How did you find your fist TES?

Well, I found my first TES in a very warm way. To know why it was so warm, I'll need to tell a little bit about myself.

When I was young I just loved gaming. But not in a particular way. I played many games. From action, to the random cartoon based games. The ones that I enjoyed the most were: Pokemon, Zelda minish cap, FF4 and Runescape 2(In his early days). But I did not know almost all of them were RPGs.

So one day, 4 years ago, I completed Half-Life 2(One of the best games I played) and felt bored. I had COD4 on my desk, but I couldn't like it anymore since I played HL2. So I went looking on the internet and looked for the best games in the top lists of 2006(Yes, a low end PC). I found TES: Oblivion in almost all of them. So a week or so later I went to the local game shop and found Oblivion on sale. 5 euros! I thought, why not? So I bought it, and installed it. The screenshots when installing were promising  And then I clicked on the shortcut to play it.

The res was set pretty low, so I had to raise that first. But I never heard anything about Distand land. So I didn't touch it at all. Because I was used to the mainstream games, that had no story, I skipped the intro video. :( So then I saw a weird face zoomed in on the screen. And then I found out I had to choose a character. But I didn't know what I was doing so I chose the Imperial and didn't change the slightest thing. I found the other races too ugly xD, and I didn't read their description. So then I found out I was in prison. I walked to the door and then heard that annoying inmate. But he looked weird too. Like on of the races I saw in the Character menu. I foud out I couldn't open the door, so I turned around, clicked on the cups and bones, and found out I could pick up things. I didn't know where they went though.

So then I skipped all conversations in the tutorial and rushed through the tutorial, later on I got over encumbered, and found the inventory screen. I found the assissination of the emperor pretty cool, but still, I chose a class with the coolest pic.

Then I reached the end of the tutorial. And opened the door. Unlucky for me, my terrain tex were messed up and it was all purple. I thought it was normal so I followed the red marker. I got to the priory, skipped Jauffre's story, and went outside. I found a horse and it seemed that stealing was included in the game. So the shepherd was running after me, yelling, and I followed the red marker again. Then I got close to kvatch, and the sky turned red. Then I said to myself: "It's really cool that the game has an open world, but the purple terrain and red sky are too much." So I quit the game and unistalled it.

I started to play COD4 again, and got bored. So I decided to give Oblivion another chance. I installed it again, and followed all conversations, all tutorial tips, and the story. And so my adventure begun. And I learned that an RPG meant Role-playing game, and that almost all my favorite games were RPGs. xD (I was 12 when I bought Oblivion.)

I reached my nostalgia when I was close to the end of the MQ. And again when I found SI. And soon, I found out about modding.

So how did you guys find your first ES?

I got Morrowind bundled with my video card, back in 2003. It was an awesome surprise, this series was unknown to me. The first Ghost Recon was included too, great game.

I was browsing Amazon dot com for new games, back in 2001. Somehow I landed on Amazon's page for the soon-to-be-released (they said) Morrowind. I'd never played a rolelaying game before. I didn't really know what "roleplaying" was. But the graphics looked awesome, so I pre-ordered.

By the time the game finally shipped in 2002 I'd played Deus Ex a couple of times, so I had a better idea of how a roleplaying game worked. But not how Morrowind worked. I tried to buy the staff that leans against the wall of Arrille's Tradehouse by clicking on it and seconds later my character was dead. Welcome to Vvardenfell, Outlander!

My little brother brought Oblivion and I tried to play it but got bored within 20 min.

Then I saw a skyrim trailer and got hooked.

I bought Arena at or near release. That was a long time ago. So long I no longer recall exact details. That said...

...I was already a fan of computerized RPGs. Indeed, watching a co-worker play Dungeon Master on his Atari circa 1988 is what let to my purchasing my first "IBM compatible" computer. Why Dungeon Master? It was first-person perspective, a rarity in those days. Isometric, top-down, and side-scrollers had never much appealed to me. But first-person play drew me in like a magnet. I was hooked!

After acquiring my first computer, I naturally kept an eye out for first-person perspective games, which continued to be in short supply for some time. Therefore, when Arena launched it was an instant must-have. Now, back then I subscribed to a great many computer related magazines, including several devoted exclusively to PC gaming. It might well be that I had read up on Arena and knew of its appeal in advance. Likely is this scenario is, I can't confirm its truth.

Irony #1... Dungeon Master was not ported to the PC until it was hopelessly outdated and not worth buying.

Irony #2... I play my favorite Elder Scrolls title, "Oblivion", almost exclusively in third person. (In this regard it remains something of an exception. I continue to prefer first-person in most games where it is an option.)

I first got Morrowind and I use to play it a lot, when I was younger on my Xbox. Though then, I didn't really pay much attention to it being in a series. I just played the game. Much later though, when I got Skyrim on the PS3 I found myself really getting into it and later bought it for the PC to try out mods. I have tried Oblivion and Arena also, and thought they were pretty cool.

For me, years ago I watched Toonami on Cartoon Network and from time to time they talked about current video games. Usually it was the little robot guy Tom, but this time the ship's AI Sarah (iirc) reviewed a game with lots of customisations (character creation) and a vast world to explore, that game was Morrowind.

However, at that time I had no PC or X-Box (didn't even know there was an X-Box version 'till I joined the forums), but about half a year later when I did get a PC, I bought Morrowind (and shortly later a new graphics card..) and haven't looked back since. :)
