How did you hear of "Skyrim"?

Post » Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:01 am

Noticing the interest in "Skyrim", I was wondering how many of you are new to the Elder Scrolls and how many are veterans. Will "Skyrim" be your introduction to the series, or was it "Oblivion"? How many started with "Morrowind" or even older games?

I started with daggerfall, then morrowind, but I didn't like morrowind very much so I just played other games until oblivion, which I loved.

Came across Morrowind at a used game store. Read the description and picked it up. Been playin MW and OB ever since.

Found out about Skyrim by a friend posting me a link on a social networking site. Which has led me back to playin OB, Thank god no more Black ops...

First ES game was OB. First heard rumours of Skyrim when it was believed that it was going to be announced quite early on in the year (IIRC the announcement was actually DAII). I think back then it was already known that Skyrim had been trademarked, although there was nothing official.

I had forgotten this, but "Skyrim" was rumored for years after it was discovered the word had been trademarked by Bethesda. I had my doubts about Skyrim as a game locale, since I had played the "Bloodmoon" expansion and felt as if I had already been to Skyrim. The screenshots look good, though.

I'd still like to see other provinces such as Hammerfell though.

I started with Morrowind then got Obliivon when it came out. The first I heard of Skyrim was on the cover of Game Informer.

I've been playing TES since Morrowind, and I heard about Skyrim when it was announced at the VGAs in 2010. I'd heard it might be announced, and that was the whole reason I watched.

I checked every few months for information, and then rumors started that it would be revealed in December 2010. Those rumors were correct, so I was half expecting a reveal.

I started with Oblivion and put about 180 hours into it at this point on my main save. I have a Morrowind file but I'm not nearly as far in it. I love both games, though Oblivion feels more polished to me and Morrowind a bit more clunky but still great.

I first played Oblivion because a friend of mine online insisted I should get it. Before that I thought Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind were part of the same series and that one was an expansion pack of the other or something. I knew nothing of Bethesda or TES before my friend pointed me to Oblivion.

I started the series with Morrowind, and even before Skyrim was announced, I'd regularly visit the Bethesda forums, at the time before the announcement of Skyrim, I'd often post in Elder Scrolls general for speculations and suggestions for future Elder Scrolls games and to see if there was any news of a new game, eventually, I noticed a thread about the announcement of Skyrim, it wasn't the first one I'd seen, of course, so I thought it might just be a rumor, needless to say, when I actually looked in it, I was proven wrong.

Almost exactly like my experience, except I was sure what has happened, as I had seen a rush of closing the threads by moderators, and just knew something big was happening.

I found Skyrim on Youtube. I typed in "The Elder Scrolls" in the search bar and I saw what I couldn't belive. Seriously, my jaw dropped and and started the announcement trailer. After I watched that trailer I searched for "Skyrim gameplay" and I found the gameplay trailer. The end.

Oblivion was my first and only TES game btw...

Btw again, what is E3? :turtle:

Played MW on original xbox, then Oblivion on PC, then Morrowind and a bit of DF and Arena on PC. Found out Bethesda was going to be announcing something at the VGAs and then scoured the interwebs for all of 5 seconds before I found the glorious first trailer that set my hairs on end.

Well I played ES1 and ES2 for years. I originally had some issues with just playing one character as I was used to the old D&D Party formula, but as soon as I figured out that one character could do everything needed I was good.

When ES3 came out I was floored. 3D! Real 3D. I was in RPG heaven for many many years.

I actually didn't buy ESIV for a few years after it was released as I didn't like the new combat. I actually liked using my characters stats to determine hit/miss, etc. After I finally got it I still wasn't real crazy about the weapon damage (not hit/miss) being skill/attribute based and I hated the way they did the leveled creatures. But overall I played the game for a couple years now and love it.

ESV I knew was coming someday, the only question was where it would take place and when it would come out. Since we already had a Nordish place in MW-BM I was surprised they went with Skyrim. I would have guessed it would have been in Elsweyr or Black Marsh. Honestly my first thought was that Skyrim would be snow, snow and more snow, not a lot of variety. But so far it looks good.

Bought Morrowind when I was pretty much new to gaming so I didn't understand a whole lot. Returned to it a couple of years later and had my mind completely blown.

I didn't bought Oblivion til' only a few years ago. Morrowind kept me busy for 4 full years of playing and modding.

I was googling "elder scrolls" and "elder scrolls skyrim" came up in the suggestions. I thought "holy [censored], it's been announced - where was I?"

This was sometime between when the teaser trailer was out but the gameplay trailer wasn't.

I had heard about Elders Scrolls games in the past but didn't play them until a friend introduced me to Oblivion. Played it, loved it. Played Morrowind shortly afterward, loved it. Will probably play Daggerfall sometime soon.

A couple of months ago I randomly googled TES V and strangely enough they had released the teaser a little while beforehand.

I started playing Morrowind, then later Oblivion.

At first I was hanging out at the "elder scrolls series" (or whatever) section here at the forums desperately looking for information about a new elder scrolls game. Eventually I gave up, and a couple of weeks later, I coincidentally stumbled upon the teaser trailer while at school (and got all hyped up, of course).

Played Morrowind at a friends house, when I was 10 I think (it was his brother's game), but sort of forgot it soon after. Then, about three years later, my friend told me "Morrowind 2" was coming. I got it the day it came out, and loved it.

I heard of Skyrim from a friend who read about it in a gaming mag. I've played Morrowind and Oblivion about 300 hours each, discovered Morrowind sometime during the winter of 2004 after reading good recommendations about it in the world of gothic forums.
