How did you hear of "Skyrim"?

Post » Thu Jun 24, 2010 6:06 pm

Started with Morrowind when I was just a lad of 12 or something in 2002. I don't know where I was exactly when I heard about Skyrim but I knew exactly what it was.

I found out on Youtube, every few days I would type in Elder Scrolls 5 since about 2009 hoping to see anything and then the greatest christmas present off all, the announcement trailer at the Spike video Game awards. At first I thought it was going to be another fake uploaded by the losers that normally upload crap, until I saw and heard Todd Howard announce it personally.

I've been grinning ever since with the biggest rock on in history. The link below is pretty much my reaction by the coolest cat in the world

I started with Daggerfall, about 15 years ago. Played TES games off and on ever since (I sort of lost track after Redguard, then finally bought Morrowind and that svcked me back in). I was on these forums during the run-up to the announcement of Skyrim, and contributed to some of the speculation threads. I remember when Beth secured the rights to the "Skyrim" name, and that pretty much settled the lingering question of where the next game was going to be set (though even by then the consensus here was pretty much Skyrim anyway). I actually wasn't here when it was officially announced - I was off playing Minecraft. But it filtered into my awareness somehow and I eventually made my way back here.

Oblivion was my first, I've played them all, and I watched the Skyrim announcement live.

I was just browsing Gamespot, a little rest after a Fallout overload, and what do you know it said 'TES V: SKYRIM' at the bottom of the page.

This was embarassingly for a fan of the series a whole week after the announcement! Though to be fair I had started going on the speculation threads more and more towards the end of the year, knowing something big was about to happen, but no clue when.

Started with Daggerfall, missed Morrowind but played and heavily modded Oblivion. As for Skyrim, first heard of it on either Gamespot or IGN ... probably both ... when the 'wall' trailer was released.

I was one of the few who knew all about Skyrim back in 2007.

Morrowind was my first Elder Scrolls game. I've played Daggerfall since though.

I was introduced to the Elder Scrolls Series in July 2010, and i started with Oblivion GOTY Edition. After experiencing TES for the first time it was magical. I then bought Morrowind GOTY Edition for my Xbox which is what i play on. It was also a great game, i recently purchased Daggerfall from ebay and it should be here soon. So i guess im working in reverse order. Graphics arent really that huge for me, and i notice great things from every game and not so great things from every game. Im hoping Skyrim will have things from Morrowind and Oblivion. As well as some good things from Daggerfall which i've read about.

Started with MW about 6 years ago when a couple of my PnP RPG group (now virtually defunct ) were raving about it and how much better than NWN it was.
Tried it, loved it. Have since played Arena, DF and Oblivion and I suspect that if any of them had been my intro to the series I wouldn't have bothered with any of the others.

My friend originally introduced me to Oblivion once I'd gotten my PS3 a couple years ago, then another friend told me about a new ES trailer, nothing specific about it. Went home, watched the trailer, found the kind of game I've been waiting on for years. :D

I was playing daggerfall and suddenly had a vision, it was of beautiful snowy mountains, and after a long pause looking at the scenery I heard a loud shout that shook the world, it said "DOVAHKIN!" I had no idea of the meaning at the time, then suddenly a dragon swooped upon me and etched some markings into my arm, I couldn't read it, but the meaning was clear "The devour of the world has come". I then awoke and new that sometime in the future there will be an elder scrolls game that would shake the world.

Noticing the interest in "Skyrim", I was wondering how many of you are new to the Elder Scrolls and how many are veterans. Will "Skyrim" be your introduction to the series, or was it "Oblivion"? How many started with "Morrowind" or even older games?

Oh, I was looking forward to answering your question in the title... well I started on Oblivion in '06... riveting, I know.

I started with Morrowind when I saw ads in OXM and rented it, played till I was caught stealing in Khuul and ended up having to kill everyone and stole everything of value, then realized I was stranded there because I had a death sentence and wasn't strong enough to kill the guards of any city I went to. Then finally bought the game and played about everyday till Oblivion came out, it was good but nowhere near the fun I had with MW. I am now eagerly awaiting Skyrim which I am hoping will replace MW as my favorite game of all time, but that may be impossible while I still wear my nostagia goggles. I was online when I caught word of a TES announcement on the VGA awards which I had on my DVR but had not watched yet, so I ran off the watch that and danced a jig of joy.

My friend D.J. told me about it...Then I head-butted him for trying to lie to me...After I kicked him repeatedly in the groin to get the truth out, I determined that indeed he was being truthful...So...After I wet my pants with sheer excitement...I then raced home immediately from the restaurant (leaving him with the check) so that I could see the trailer...Where I wet my pants again...True Story...

Popped onto the forums as usual, I think the day after Skyrim was announced, and there was a whole section dedicated it. I may have feinted, the details are a little fuzzy.

I started with Morrowind back in 05 (I think), got Oblivion a couple years ago, then started on Daggerfall a year ago.

Started with Morrowind (it was one of those games I bought on release day then swore at my PC for a while and finally got to play it a few months later after a major hardware upgrade!!!) Then went through the exact same process when Oblivion was released :cryvaultboy:

I'd been regularly googling "TES V" for ages hoping for an announcement, hanging around the forum here on and off for any whiff of real news. I became utterly convinced that there would be an announcement on Spike TV VGAs towards the end of last year (despite a lot of people here saying that there was no way Beth would do a big announcement there, I had a gut feeling about it for some reason) - so convinced that I found a live stream of the TV channel online and waited up to the early hours of the morning to watch it.

Then Todd Howard was announced and came on stage and there were robed figures and stuff and then the first second of the trailer and I gripped my husband's arm and spent the next few minutes jumping up and down and *ahem* sort of crying a bit :o (while my husband no doubt wondered whether he should phone for a padded ambulance) and I was so excited I missed most of the teaser trailer! Then I came here and posted some excited comment along the lines of "yay" but in upper case with loads of exclamation marks after it, you know the sort of thing (almost acceptable coming from a 6 year old on their birthday, but not very becoming of a middle aged woman). And I never did say "I told you so" to those who poo-poohed the idea of a VGA announcement - it didn't take me too long to regain my composure ;)

I started when I found Morrowind for 10 bucks at Kohl's (though that was just before the release of Oblivion)
