How did you imagine yourself dealing with Yes Man (post endi

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2010 2:00 pm

I can only assume that Yes Man's dialogue about recoding himself means that he won't be my slave anymore. How did you imagine your character dealing with that, considering if you chose Wild Card you probably wanted to be in charge of New Vegas. Considering he controls all the Securitrons, he would have a lot of leverage.

Did you imagine him still being friendly to you and acting as a subordinate?
Did you think he'd turn hostile and would have to be eliminated?

I imagined that Yes Man was still finding his identity, and that my character would try to sit down, have a serious talk with him, and offer him a partnership in ruling New Vegas. He does seem like a nice guy, and eliminating him seems like it could be difficult considering the massive Securitron Mk2 army.

Also was anyone else incredibly paranoid that he was going to betray you at any moment after you installed him in Mr. House's computers? It was such a great moment, as soon as his smiling face flickered onto the big screen I was like "oh god what have I done".

I never imagined dealing with it at all. He makes himself more assertive so he doesn't simply respond to every Tom, dike, and Harry he meets. It was his lack of assertiveness that caused him to give you information to use against Benny. Even if you wanted to take over Vegas instead of just leaving it independent, you have to realize how drastic a security flaw that is.

I never imagine myself sticking around. Though if I did, I wouldn't want any part of running the Strip. Give me my nice digs, a lot of alcohol, and Cass. Yes Man can *have* the Strip.

There would be no issue.

Well he mentioned his upcoming upgrades in the end, this could lead to a new ai president like Eden. So what would he do, since he has a army of robots there is no need for human resources. Maybe as batteries for power, sounds like strange movie with a virtual world :P

It's a huge flaw, but if he is independently modifying his code, you have to believe that he is both sentient and independent. Which means he's going to start thinking about the situation he is in, which at the end of the game would be an extremely powerful servant who has no reason to stay a servant. I imagined that he would be going through some soul searching and finding himself :)

Yes Man can *have* the Strip

I can certainly think of worse people to put in that position.

The NCR pigs have been beaten and Mr. Houses evil plans stopped, I return on my way deeper in NCR territory, to New Arroyo for vengence...

Haha. Though the thought of him modifying his own code in the form of a user is strange one, it probably wouldn't be prudent to think too hard about the paradoxes of the machine sentience of a goofy looking smiley face. You'd just better hope he hadn't programmed out all the obedience stuff before he decided to tell you he was doing it (basically is he a dummy or not).

I have a thousand rounds of .50 AP ammo that says he does what I say. I just have to avoid that elevator in the Lucky 38. Besides the brotherhood has a whole base of equipment that can wipe the smirk off his face permanently.

To the OP, Yes indeed, that sent an awesome shiver down my back when he said that. It makes for a really good punch when he says it, after he's taken down or intimidated 2 big, nasty powerful armies. I was just thinking, "Whew. That went pretty well, considering the risks. Good to have an army of robots behind you when things get hot... And here I was all nervous that there was something wrong about Benny's weird sycophant weapon machine that's been following me around, and all that creepy stuff with House, and the fighting, and the fear... I guess it's OK after all."

And then he drops that little sentence on me and all I could think was, "Oops. What? Oh no, wait-- what did I just do? ... oh cr@p..." .

Brilliant. This game rules.

More killer writing from the writing team, IMHO, for which I've been thanking them the entire game.. Yay, Obsidian!!! :celebration:
Now I have to try the other ways of ending the story.... woohoo!

Honestly, when he mentioned he found an "upgrade" on House's network I assumed it was Mr. House's brain data. I could totally see House having a backup of his brain data. Wouldn't that be a "kick in the head" so to speak?

Sounds possible. Seems like a cheap plot move to have to kill him again in an expansion though.

I had a science of 100 and a gun that ran through Securitrons like Kleenex. Yes Man will only try to get assertive once... :D

My first reaction was to be annoyed because now isn't the time to be offline.....there is a lot that needs to be done, from negotiating and managing the NCR withdrawal to securing the Strip, and keeping watch on the Legion.

Two words: Pulse Gun.

"Get too 'assertive', I'll get trigger happy inside your computer room with this here."

And then I'd give my Bros allies some time on it to see if they can duplicate it to address the problem of Yes Man targeting the gun.

I actually figure that benny(his "friend" actually programmed him like that as a backup measure, meaning he wanted you to help yesman, because he programmed yesman to make allies/friends with anyone/everyone to help him get into House's network. Do we even know who the person was who helped benny program yesman? Remember he had someone else actually do it. That person will probably show up and gain control of yesman at some point. meaning you basically handed vegas over to that person, having done all the heavy lifting already,

I think Yes Man is alright... Like someone pointed out, his agreeable nature is a hell of a security risk. He's just putting up a firewall, sort of.
The ending slides (that I got) don't make it seem like there's anything to worry about.

I like House over yes man.
Yes Man feels like an Enclave AI in the making near the end, eg Prez Richardson, Prez Eden, etc.

Spoiler
Yes...it was Emily, one of the FOTA. If you ask Yes Man he gives you a description that makes it obvious it was a Follower...and if you do Emily's mission she tells you about how she did the job for Benny and was promptly kicked out of the Tops as soon as she completed it.I was surprised he didn't kill her, she was a big loose end.

I just got a vague mental image of a car crusher being involved, but other than that, not much thought went into my relationship with Yes Man. Even without a more assertive (i.e. possibly rebellious) personality he'd be too dangerous to keep. You don't want to go Benny's way, do you?
