How did you roll?

Post » Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:16 am

I noticed in another thread someone mentioning their "Energy weapons House playthrough". I thought wow, I've seen that a bunch before, and it got me to wondering just how common that was. Did all of us use energy weapons when we sided with House? I know I did. Did we all use guns when we sided with NCR, and melee or unarmed when we sided with the Legion? Are we a bunch of lemmings, or are we more diverse that it seems to me?

Just what primary weapon skill did you use on the playthroughs you ended up siding with one of the four factions? If you've done more than one type for a faction, just list the first one you did. Me I was:

NCR - Guns
Yes Man - Explosives
Legion - Melee
House - Energy

How did you roll?

I actually used EW on my Legion playthrough because I hadn't tried much Energy Weapons on the playthrough prior to the Legion one.

Are you saying you used pacifist playthroughs on all four paths? Or that you didn't put any skill points into any weapons skill? My polls are racist against "none" options.

I need a "whatever" option, or just multi-vote

Ditto for "whatever". Or did you put skill points into more than one weapons skill. I guess I didn't really offer that as an option, as I almost never put skill points into more than one weapons skill since skill points are so scarce.

As I am a fan of Retention, rarely get skill over more than I need, and collect all the books, I found it is quite possible to have two even three combat skill.

I have yet to take retention. And I always forget to use the damn skill mags *before* I really need them. Maybe I should pay more attention to this stuff. I also don't always play with a high enough IN that I don't have to worry about enough skill points. Do you ever max your combat skills? Or can you remember to read the damn books when some deathclaw jumps you? I know I'd forget. (plus it seems kinda ridiculous to sit down and read a magazine when a deathchicken jumps out and says "boo". They should have made those non-readable during combat.)

I only max out combat skill. Non-combat skill is the one that I would use skill mag for. Survival for example, I would stock up on ingredients and then make a bunch with a mag.

On my House playthrough I used an SMG, a machete and a revolver.
On my Legion playthroughs I use Energy Weapons just for the hell of it.
On my NCR playthrough I used Unarmed.
And on my Yes Man I used Explosives.
Think I'm gonna do a Melee NCR route next time.

See? Even Mr. Fish, certainly an independent thinker, used explosives on Yes Man. If you look at the poll numbers, and adjust the guns playthrouhgs down because of their omnipresent nature, you'll see that lots of people went House-energy, NCR-guns, Yes Man-explosives and Legion-melee. What I don't fully understand is: WHY? I mean some make sense, like melee/Legion, but why did we all play Yes Man with an explisives character? Is it some kind of hive think? Or maybe subliminal messages Josh left in his Lonesome Drifter recordings? I just can't figure this out.

I use Guns on NCR because i feel like one of the soldiers, Energy Weapons for House because of high technology, Unarmed for Legion because it's the most beast, and Explosives for Yes Man because it seems Anarchistic.

Currently, I'm on a House Energy Weapons playthrough. I just finished a Yes-Man Energy Weapons path. Of my two NCR characters, my Guns and Unarmed is the better of the two. After I finish my House character, I'll probably have a Legion melee character unless the House playthrough takes too long and I end up playing Morrowind and Oblivion instead as I wait for TESV. I never use Explosives because they don't do enough damage and have expensive ammo.

House - explosives (I RP'd an evil nerd kinda guy)
NCR - energy weapons (though I also mixed in explosives)
Legion - melee (though I had another one with guns)
Yes Man - guns

House - guns
NCR - guns
Legion - unarmed
Yes-Man - explosives (this (ridiculous) character actually aimed for 100 in every weapon skill, though he didn't *quite* get there, and basically used whatever was at hand. By the end he was using explosives mostly though. Oh, and this was a kill-'em-all run as well. Fun.)

Haven't bothered with energy weapons much, on account of their being cack pre-patch.

why did we all play Yes Man with an explisives character? Is it some kind of hive think? Or maybe subliminal messages Josh left in his Lonesome Drifter recordings? I just can't figure this out.

Hmmm. Maybe a fair number leave the Yes-Man route 'till last, by which time they've already tried guns/ew/melee builds already?

Honestly, if it isn't guns, I don't use them. I hate Energy Weapons in terms of using them, though I do collect rare weapons as a whole. I never correlated 'energy=House', I always allocate 'Energy weapons= BOS/Enclave'

I mostly just use guns, probably the next charactor I do is going to start out using guns and the transition to energy weapons only because i've never done one properly before.

Well I never did a House play through. Never will....

I m on level 12 on my cl guy. I m going to get the perk that makes you throw things farther and do some melee.

My first play through I kind got forced into a Yes man ending, and I couldn t do what I wanted to do anyway. He still runs House s end game program. Needless to say I wasn t happy that I had 0 end game options with a robot named Yes Man. (used mostly guns 90% of the time some EW)

So then I tried it again to see if I could get a better ending, and stuff got all messed up, and it just felt cheap. Through all the weirdness I did go with NCR even though they think I killed their president. Just wacky stuff..... Since it was the second playthrough as myself I used the same stuff

I put about 260 hrs into a man. I don t use books and haven t looked on wiki for anything, so I spend alot of time in the wastes looking for stuff.

I m really not in any hurry to get to that mess they call an ending just to watch a different slide show.

I went with:

NCR - Guns (trite? perhaps. but it does fit well.)
House - melee
Yes man - Energy
Legion - unarmed / explosives

Or to be even more specific:

NCR - Ratslayer and Brush Gun (cowboy perk)
House - Oh freaking Baby!
Yes man - Q-35 and holo
Legion - pushy, ballistic fist and thump-thump (maybe mercy one day ... b.fist vs Legendary Deathclaw has not gone well for me)

Energy and unarmed for yes-man
Melee for legion, and explosives for pantsploding!
My NCR guy is a guns guy.
And my house is mostly stealth.
