How did your character turn out in Oblivion?

Post » Wed Oct 19, 2011 3:19 am

I don't know why, but whenever I created a character in oblivion (only Nords/Imperials), he would always come out looking like a teddy bear, despite my efforts in trying to make him look intimidating and fierce.
Any of you encountered the same problem?
I hope this will be different in Skyrim, cause in oblivion my tough-warrior looked like a kid. = /

I had this problem too, Oblivion's face models inevitably ended up looked like 12-year-olds, cartoons or both. Beards will go a long way towards solving this issue, but the general models are infinitely better this time around. Just look at the http://www.bethblog.com/index.php/2011/08/24/the-races-and-faces-of-skyrim/. Lots of intimidating and fierce in there :D

I only just managed to make my characters in oblivion look older than 5 - but skyrim looks way better.

At least in Skyrim we have awesome presets you can choose from. If you don't change the shape of the faces at all, you can never go wrong and still have an awesome character.

I disagree, it took me about 3 hours but i managed to create an awesome mean looking nord. Though the characters in oblivion were horrible and all pudgy and ugly. morrowind was better though judging by the models in skyrim this will kick the crap out of anything else. Looking forward to spending a couple of solid hours making my char. I'm ocd like that ^^

It took a lot of work to get my characters to where I felt they were "pretty" but I was able to get close. I think the new Character Creation system will be much better. I'll keep playing with it until it's where I want it to be.

I can't make anything decent in OB without a lot of mods or someone else's save game file. I am too anol and not nearly creative enough. I do not know why it is important to me to look right in a game where I play in 1st person all the time, but strangly enough it is.

A bit of a bastard really; thief, assassin, not much of a do-gooder. Did every quest but the main one.

I disagree, I was able to make characters look pretty much as I wanted them to look. Though a couple times I made them in the construction set then imported them into a save because the CS had a few extra options. But generally the oblivion system was quite powerful I thought. You could alter practically any feature on someone's face. Fallout 3 and NV seemed a bit more limited in this area. Whatever you did, they always looked very similar.

A pitch black Khajiit (after much cursing during creation) With a strange head dress (no 'bald' option allowed) and a bad attitude......had great fun ;)

It didn't help that the lighting in the starting dungeon was awful.

Character went basically ok, once I got some better hair and face textures. Of course, I was going for "pretty woman", not "angry man", so.....

(Went even better once they came up with the head06 replacement head mesh.)

The given presets certainly make it look like angry/tough/hostile will be quite easy in the new character builder. I'm a bit concerned about the opposite, but hold out hope based on some of the other NPC and character shots that we've seen that aren't all rough & grizzled. (Like the barmaid)

I managed to get a few "acceptable" faces after a lot of fighting with the sliders and setting most of them tight up against one end or the other. There wasn't enough range to do a whole lot, and the results often just started to get reasonable when they hit the stop.

The final "age" slider allowed me to make one really nasty and decrepit looking old wizard, but the image went very quickly from "bloated kid face" to "mean old man" face, with nothing very useful in the middle.

I really hope that Skyrim's face generator gives us a couple of "alternative" starting faces, rather than just one bland and rather homely one for each race.
