How did Zelda beat Skyrim?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:46 am

Because every time Zelda games come out, they stick to their original formula. You have a princess, you save the princess. You have basic skills that upgrade a little bit, over the course of the game. You have puzzles and challenges that are actually somewhat puzzling and challenging. Boss battles are unique and interesting and usually just below "too difficult" to beat.

I can pick up any Zelda game in the series and know that I'm going to have a good time.

TES, on the other hand, tries to change up their formula every time they do something. Every game they make is only similar to the previous games in that it's an open world. That's it. Character skills, abilities, levelling, puzzles, NPC behavior, Boss Battles, the magick system, everything TES does gets changed every time. When you buy any given TES game in the series, you have no idea what you are going to get.

I don't like that. I enjoy TES, but their systems are always in flux which means they always have the glitches and bugs and problems that are associated with a first effort. TES is not polished. It's shiny, but it's not polished. Zelda is.

That's why Zelda won and I agree that it deserves to. I voted for Zelda and I haven't even played it.

You missed out "and full of bugs" in your skyrim list, I play both and Zelda skyward sword isn't much, But and its a BIG but when it comes to votes, At least some of us can playing it without needing mods to fix the errorless CTD's or hard crashes. something Bethesda should have patched with the 1.2

To be fair it's easy to release a bug free game on the Wii because it's a novelty console that can't handle anything complicated. Ambitious games are buggy; markedly unambitious and generic games are usually less buggy.

zelda fans are making multiple accounts

Skyrim fans were making more multiple accounts. There were people on these forums telling everyone to make multiple accounts to win. People shouldn't be sore losers.

I will agree that the PS3 bug was a rather large mar on Skyrim's release. Without that and the the buggy patch that came out just before the semi-finals Skyrim probably would've taken this easy.

opinion probably, and granted i do love me some zelda, bought a 3ds to replay oot. The only thing i'm curious about is how many actual games of each were sold, i would imagine skyrim has to have sold way better being on 3 consoles

Those people on G4 were voting for Zelda, not Skyward Sword. A lot of fanbois fail to realize its about game vs game, not franchises.

Because Skyrim is a crap?

Zelda has been out there for YEARS, and its still Zelda. Skyrim is new, and how does it look like? Making games easier, and getting rid of content is NO GO.

I guess people actually able to play the other game? Hard to vote for a game that is bugged to the point of unplayability

Haha, Zelda has been the same old poop that it has been for over 20 years. It's not even fun anymore. Skyrim is new, innovative, has a whole new engine with more gameplay, exploration, and customizable features and it still loses? Zelda fans are braindead fools.

Sorry to for bringing the hammer, but your wrong http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrjwaqZfjIY

I talked to people at my school who played both Skyrim and new Zelda, they really dig Zelda and not just because its Zelda, but because its damn good.

zelda fans are making multiple accounts

There are people on this very forum that have admitted to doing the same for Skyrim.

probably because of skyrims broken perk system that you can't re-align if you want, unless you start all over again

They were doing the same thing on the Nintendo forums, and Skyward Sword had Nintendo fans who don't even play Zelda games flooding the vote-box as well because it was the only Nintendo title in the running.

Both sides cheated but SS definitely did the worst of it.

I'd like to see your definition of Ambition. Just because Zelda didn't put their effort into making a an enormous game space and a fancy 3D map that doesn't even mark known roads, or high resolution graphics that won't even matter because you can't load the game, that means they put less effort in? How about that really ambitious shadow rendering system that doesn't even work?

What about things like an interesting story, unique boss battles, memorable places, memorable NPCs, and a never-failing classic mission to save "the princess?" What about making dungeons that are vertical and horizontal? What about making puzzles that actually take an ounce of brain power? What about making unique items in the game that actually make a difference once you get them?

None of that counts as ambition?

I defiantly agree with you there, based on category and the parameters in most cases I pick Skyrim.

I do love Zelda but I don't really consider it on the same level for what each company is trying to do.

That's a random vote. With poor match-ups. Easy way to make multiple accounts, etc, etc.

That's barely a GoTY award.

While I agree with some of your statements, shouldn't COD be the all-times GOTY then? After all they are milking the same formula every year. :teehee:

And I think that TES deserves the award because while I will play Zelda (and like) one time, I will play Skyrim (And others TES) for the eternity. (Specially on PC)
