how to disable a magic rune trap ?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 1:11 am

There's a point in a dungeon where a couple of magic electric runes are in the ground with no apparent way avoid triggering it. I tried everything but no chance: every time is a one shot dead (I suppose this is due to the actual magical resistance bug as well). If I fire a ranged spell from far, the trap is not triggered, if I do from near it is, but I die. Putting objects on it doesn't help.

I had to go back and renounce to the quest for the moment. Is there any potion or way to pass it ?

thanks

If it's an electric rune, cast an electric spell on it to activate. If it's a fire rune, use a fire spell etc etc

Shout FUS! at it from a safe distance. It'll trigger because FUS! is force, it pushes down on pressure plates and acts like you stepping on a glyph. Never tried using it to trigger a trip wire but it might do that too.

Good hint, thanks. Didn't try with an electric spell. I'll go back there.

I've no FUS so far, at least I think (have only one shout). I also proceed without companions and without killing anything (as a challenge) :)

Actually, I set off an electrical trap with a fireball, so I think it just requires force. Unrelenting Force shout is probably the best. It worked on a tripwire for me, at least.

Generally? As far as I know, it's always the first one you learn no matter what. Is there even a way to get a different one first?

You can't have any shout without having FUS. Dragons don't spawn until after you kill the first one (obviously that one is an exception), and the soul of the first one automatically unlocks "Force, Unrelenting Force" aka FUS.

Shouts or any kind of elemental magic will set them off. The magic does not need to match the rune.

Magic sprays will set them off, but bolts wont from what I've seen. Just /flames it from afar. :flamethrower:

Well, I didn't want to make the blanket statement without thinking it through and being wrong but.. yeah, come to think of it, it has to be the first. Dragons won't spawn till you get far enough in the main quest to kill that dragon outside of whiterun, and you can't spawn that dragon until you bring back the dragonstone from Bleak Falls Barrow, and you can't get the stone until you learn the word Fus from the wall which spawns the boss of Bleak Falls.

So if you know any shouts at all.... it's Fus.
