How to disable the compass (PC Only)

Post » Wed Jan 15, 2014 9:40 pm

NOTE: This is available to PC players only.

Are you constantly annoyed by the annoying compass which ruins your immersion?

Do you want to disable it without setting the opacity of the HUD to 0, which too removes the H/M/S bars and interaction menu?

Well look no further, I am here to help!

  1. Find and open your SkyrimPrefs.ini, which would be in Documents\My Games\Skyrim.
  2. Under [Interface], set bShowCompass=0 .

Congratulations, your compass is disabled! Enjoy your improved immersion!

Can I get a pin for this helpful thread please?

If you're on the PC there is also many mods like http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3222/? that only show interface items when you need them.

I love it when people make mods for things that can already be acquired or changed in the vanilla game.

Take a look at the mod. It's actually quite useful.

Rather than opening up the console command, stopping the entire game, typing in a line of script that is meant to debug the game, the mod actually only displays your health, magicka or stamina when they're being used.

You can toggle the compas by simply pressing "X."

Give it a try! :)

The only thing you can do in vanilla is remove the crosshair or disable the entire HUD. Immersive HUD does much more than this. Togglable compass, individual settings for the crosshair depending on used weapon or performed action, fading attribute bars, you can't get that without mods.
