How does being fat work?

Post » Fri Nov 26, 2010 4:43 pm

so i've heard that you can change how your body looks, so old men wont have superman bodies and once in a while people can be larger or skinnier...
so my question is just how does this work? if u eat do u get fat? is there a slider option at the start?

I think there's a slider option

I hope you can change everything later on, though (besides race and six)

More than likely it is going to be adjustable by a slider during character creation.

it would be cool if you used fast travel alot and didnt do much + ate a bunch of food your player would look fatter, then you can go quest off those pesky pounds

I hope it's a slider, but I think there will be a few preset options to choose from. Is this feature even confirmed? I

You need to buy stretchy pants. As for the game, it will probably be a slider during character creation. I doubt that you will be able to make your character fat. It would be hard to prevent clipping issues with weapon stances and armor (unless this new engine is really schweet) . We'll have to wait and see.

I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed, it's come up in a few threads around here. Actually presets sounds more plausible than a slider but I guess we'll find out in november.

Fast travel is not actual teleportation, you know that right? Why would walking, riding or joining a caravan make you fatter?

Dunno if players themselves would be able to get fat, isnt like Saints Row where you get to be a fat pimp who defies the laws of gravity and human body...
But a few kings and lords should be fat, back in ancient times the fatter you were the more you were considered to be filthy rich and powerful =/

Saints Row managed to use a slider, hope Bethesda will. But presets isn't all that bad, as long as they can be changed to one's liking.

Gladiators were fat as it reduced the chance to break their bones from blunt hits.

so my question is just how does this work?

We don't know yet if fat body types are going to be in the game.

if u eat do u get fat?

I don't think this is going to happen.

is there a slider option at the start?

We don't know yet. It's either sliders or preset body types.

Im sure it will be in a mod.

Indeed. If someone else doesn't mod it I will eventually. :D

I bet they will be presets, so you wont be able to make a fat character. Maybe on the chubby or full figured side. But outright fat...maybe not. Presets would make more sense in terms of adjusting the meshes so every piece of armor makes sense for each body type.

Provided Bethesda has kept the .nif format, the way body-types will work is not by modification of the mesh, but by modification of the bones. See this mod for Oblivion:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29853

You can change the body shape of your character at will with that mod. How it works? Basically, meshes stretch to fit the shape they need to be, as designated by the animation 'bones'. In Skyrim, Bethesda will probably put limits on the sliders, so you can't make your character so fat you distort the meshes/textures too much.
