I would imagine that newer fans like you guys (well your veteran fans but in the point of Arena and Daggerfall your newer, bare with me hehe) I would think it would be very difficult for you guys to go back and play Arena and Daggerfall as not only would the graphics grind on you but the controls are sloppy in comparison to now. It seemed natural and awe-inspiring graphics back in the day when I was 8 and got Arena and Daggerfall for my birthday and I played those svckers constantly. It's easy to move forward in a series but it's hard to back up into the DOS era.
I found it an interesting experience and successfully managed to slide back into it. With a bit of tinkering with the settings, I created my own perfect controls for Daggerfall that require very little hand movement (sprint=m3, for example, and I use a view movement similar to that of pretty much all first-person PC games today) and, with the instructions that came with the download, DOSBos was actually quite easy to work with. I can almost reinstall Daggerfall onto a DOS emulator from memory, now, and Daggerfall flows very naturally, for me. I can play Arena, too, but I didn't like Arena as much, so I spent less time playing it. Arena's controls are truly a bit inconvenient (being as rigid as they are), but I got used to them, as well. The graphics of Arena and Daggerfall actually have a certain charm to them, I'd say, but that could just be a nostalgic connection to my first video games. I can't stand the MIDI music and sounds, however. From a musical standpoint, I just can't appreciate many of the songs, the sound quality annoys me, and he frequent sound glitches are a nuisance. I can deal with old graphics, strangely enough, but old sound ticks me off. That reminds me, there's something creepy about 90's dungeons.
