How does everyone feel about..

Acrobatics being left out? Personally I'm kind of disappointed, because the perks it gave you in oblivion were super useful. I didn't mind jumping around for it, I do that a lot to scale walls anyway. Like jumping while attack, that was just badass. But the roll while blocking was REALLY awesome, and essential to my characters playstyle. Without it, it feels really hard to get out of the way of attacks. However, I did notice that there is a perk in the sneak tree that allows you to perform a silent roll by pressing the sprint button while sneaking. Has anyone tried using it mid combat? Is it to much of a pain to pop sneak, roll out of the way, and unsneak during a fight? Or does it only work outside of combat/when undetected?

Biased poll much?

Anyway, I never really cared much for it. I hopped everywhere in Morrowind because you moved faster that way, but I never really used it to get to high places (that's what Levitate was for). I never levelled it in Oblivion to be honest.
So I can't say that I miss it or that I mind that they took it out

Acrobatics was overpowered and silly, glad that it was removed.

For some reason, I often find myself still jumping everywhere like an idiot I was still trying to level up the skill.

Which is the proof that Skyrim remains a true Elder Scroll game.

Acrobatics was an annoying skill that was terrible to level, and it only gave you something that you should have been able to do anyway (jump). It was made worse by the terrible stat modifier leveling system.

Whatever man.

It was fun to be able to jump around higher but it was never anything particularly useful to any character I made.

I just ended up jumping around on my way places to level it up.

Honestly its a pain to roll while in combat, as you move slower and only roll forward. I don't recommend it. But they had good reason for removing acrobatics. They were trying to make the game more balanced and fair, and acrobatics was part of that.

It's silly, unrealistic, and doesn't fit well into leveling systems (unless modded to be tied to something like unarmored [Oblivion mod])

And yet, I miss it :unsure2:

I think see and live in the extreme.

But yeah it did [censored] with leveling a little bit. I was initially glad it was left out because of that but totally forgot about rolling and jump attack. Idk. They could have left the skill out and had them as default abilities I think. And if you can only roll forward...damn. I just feel like I spend too much time running away when I play low armor characters. Trolls kill me in 3 hits, so I can't get too close without starting to run away and the time i gotta spend doing it lets their health creep back up. I gotta roll man damn. Also I totally forgot that it made you jump higher, that was a little ridiculous.

No, because you were literally able to jump 10-15. Feet.

Standing.

I don't think jumping is fun, but picked the first choice because acrobatics was dumb.

I know that. But still, you're not overpowered.

Gravity became little more then a suggestion. You could jump to the top of a building, kill anybody you wanted with a bow, then jump te 15-20 feet down like you were floating.

And look up the video were a guy jumps from the northern point to the white gold tower.

the fun is in reference to all the other things it allows, like rolling and attacking in mid air, also you shouldn't smoke

I liked it. I liked getting to places I wasn't supposed to. Granted, it wasn't at all useful in Oblivion, but as a thief in Morrowind there were numerous homes I looted by accessing the far easier to pick second storey lock. In Oblivion jumping svcked because the city and terrain designers pretty much ignored it. If you climbed things and got up where you weren't meant to be you often found that you had broken the game, see Skingrad Castle and The Temple of the One for examples. Cities in the latest two games have been pretty much single level affairs because of the absence of levitation. If they wanted to design multi tiered cities with acrobatics in mind it would open the door to some really fun playstyles, but currently it's a redundant skill.

There was an acrobatics skill in Oblivion?

:whistling:

(Seriously, though.... I never really cared about it, except as a way to get a few more plusses on Agility, and I never had it leveled high enough to get any interesting perks. The removal of it is honestly not noticed by me at all. Ditto with Athletics. I found all the various "OMG, how could they remove such UTTERLY CRUCIAL SKILLS from the game!?!? /rage" threads that popped up in the months leading to the release to be utterly baffling.)

Yes, it's useful, but it doesn't become really useful until you max out your sneak perks and get the perk that stops combat temporarily and has distant enemies look for you. You can enter sneak, roll out of the way or into a dark corner and enemies will completely lose you until you emerge behind their back and slith their throats. Simply awesome. :)

As for acrobatics, I miss it somewhat, I liked being able to jump high and go from rooftop to rooftop.
