How does it feel to now be considered an EOS veteran you Obl

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:56 am

I have to tip my hat to you die hard Oblivion fans

I too was once a die hard Oblivion fan, i put in 1500 plus of game time. However, since Skyrim's release i jump ship and clocked in a modest 400 hours and counting.

Anyhow, being a Oblivion fan i recall always having to defend it against MW elitest and the ignorant haters that weren't EOS fans but hated on Oblivion cause it was the cool thing to do.

Now, the "ignorant haters" that starts game hating trends and moved to attack Skyrim and the MW elitest have all focused their attention on Skyrim which now makes it were i have 3 fronts of war i have to defend against

Moreoever, this puts your loyal die hard Oblivion fans in a comfortable middle posisiton. Everyone leaves you alone and now you've earn the right to become an EOS veteran having the new installement of the serise to level your own critisims at. Although, i much rather hear what you guys have to say because i believe if your still sticking with Oblivion after all the "happings" in the serise. In my view you guys have earned the right to say whatever you want about Skyrim and i like hearing what you'll have to say about it cause i too was one a die hard oblivion fan. It's just the people outside the serise that critisize the game that i can't handle.

Anyhow, after all the dust has settle from the past and the present, those of you that are still die hard Oblivion fans i'd like to hear what you have to say if your are going to be sticking with Oblivion rather than jumping ship like i have. And i'd like some insight into how this makes you feel toward Oblivion now that you've seen Skyrim and fought the good fight against MW elitest and still desire to remain a loyal player to Oblivion

I like Oblivion. Probably more than Morrowind or Skyrim, both of which I really like too. But I don't think that I'm an elitist. Just like I don't consider people that prefer Morrowind to Oblivion "elitist". That title might be to those that simply ignore any good things about Oblivion and also ignore any bad things about Morrowind.

But I have made some positive and negative comments about both Oblivion and Skyrim.

In any case, I'm really posting to ask: what is an EOS?

Good question. The EOS that came to my mind was http://eospso.gsfc.nasa.gov/.

I don't pay any attention to what people say. I know what I think and that's all that matters to me.

See, I've been around here long enough to have seen Morrowind called a dumbed-down, consolized action game by Daggerfall fans, to have heard Oblivion called a dumbed-down, consolized action game by Morrowind fans and, now, to hear Skyrim called a dumbed-down, consolized action game by Oblivion fans. When TES VI comes out I will be hearing it called a dumbed-down, consolized action game by Skyrim fans.

There are always going to be people who are dissatisfied with life and who want to make others just as dissatified as they are. I don't listen to these people. I refuse to let them bring me down to their level. All that matters is what I think about these games and I don't need to read these forums to know what my opinion is.

Starting to notice a pattern?

I don′t care what people say either, not too much anyway. Some of the comments may bug me a little but I try to look the other way since an opinion war is not a solution anyway. Just play whatever game you want and be happy

I can′t see myself defect Oblivion anytime in the foreseeable future but I have and will play a few other games to mix it up with. The calmness and the general feel will always bring me back though, sooner or later :tes:

I see. Well I do really like Oblivion. But I refuse to admit to being an Earth Observing Satellite.

OP; Let us know what you think of Skyrim if you ever put the hours in it you did in Oblivion.
well i've got 400 hours in so far. I will say that after you learn how to creat a balance character, not one that's OP which is really easy to do in your first couple play throughs, then learn how to balance out questing and exploring with managing your loot in order not to become too rich, cause when you are, everything automatically becomes worthless, then the heart of the game that paves the way for many many hours of gameplay is made possible.

Compared to Oblivion's difficulty slider and level scaling the feeling of loot and enemies is balanced better IF you learn how to properly play Skyrim. The biggest issue, IMHO, with Skyrim is its too easy to exploit and people without self-control can't control themselves and then the game becomes too easy, superfiscal, ect.

However, the type of people that are still playing Oblivion i can see easily getting set off by these facts. However, if you come to the game with an idea of what character you want, play on Master difficulty, make a low health character, don't abuse the liberal "saving features," don't combined crafts, then looting, enemies and the economy is in perfect haromy. I'm not going to lie, it took me a good 150 or so hours of game time with Skyrim to notice these things and learn how to balance out my game. That will be something you hardcoe Oblivion fans will have to understand.

Anyhow, i'm finding a lot of motivation to go explore and do misc quest cause i made it where after 5 hours of game time i have a lot of money sinks with soul gems. I am an enchanter and have so many different types one-handed weapons that i create and thus need to be refiled. I having a blast experimenting with all the possibilites with enchanting and being a duel-wield DPS fighter with low health. I can never go heads up with anything and when i engagde i have to get in fast, hit hard and get out or i die in 1 or 2 hits.

90% of the people i talk to on teh Skyrim forums don't play any where near the difficulty i'm at atm. it seems like 70% are merely the "new player" beth attracted with its shinning world and user friendly gameplay. ANd the other 29.9% are so pissed off cause its really easy to break the game by becoming overpowered and rich. Then it's hard to go back and take the game serious when you last character could buy grand soulgems like bubble gum and if they'd follow my rules, (more like common sense habits, than rules btw) it would take a level 30 a good 5 hours of questing to overcome money sinks, buy one new weapon with a grand soul gem used for its enchantment.

I could go on and on about how one should and could make the game balance and stop 90% of the haters. But that would be like trying to stop child abandment by telling the poor to stop having six. There is a temporay gratification in shortcuts but it ultimalely destroys the game for that person who then turns around and blames the devs for not balancing it out. Most people claim that it the Devs job to do it so they have no will no fix it. And its true in a sense, but 3 years from now i'll still be playing Skyrim and i'll meet some people like you guys who have learn and implimented the common sense practices and we will have a ton of info to share.

Cheers.

I suppose I'm an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Eos. Those VW's are sooo cute! :

Me? I'd say I'm a TES purist. I like both the 2 games I've tried so far (OB and Sky) about equally. They both have their beauties and their flaws.

Right. Preferring one game over another does not make you an elitist. An elitist (the way I see it) is somebody who goes around saying one game is better than another, but who also makes a habit of putting down anybody who disagrees with him or her. It's not the preference, you see, it's the attitude behiind the preference.

I wish I could have this sort of patience. I sometimes wind up getting svcked in to discussions I should just iggy.

Renee has said it all. I don't think one is better than the other. I like both Oblivion and Skyrim, and can see positives and imperfections in both. Oblivion is my home as I've always said, but that doesn't mean that Skyrim can't be my home one day as well.

I hate elitism in all shapes and forms- it's unnecessary. People don't know how to live and let live any more.

I have no idea how it feels to be an EOS veteran, since I have no clue what that is. All I know is, I really enjoy Oblivion and I don't give a rodent's hindquarters what anyone else says about the game (or about me). Let the haters hate. Let them rant and rave. I shall sit back and laugh at them.

People don't know how to live and let live any more.
People never did. Just look at the history of war.

Group 1: "I believe X, and you should too!"
Group 2: "Oh yeah? Well, I believe Y and that's not going to change!"
Group 1: "Then have at thee!!!" *conflict ensues*

It's the same phenomenon as "video game elitism".
