How does one play this game?

Post » Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:09 am

Ohai.

I've finally given up "waiting". I wish to taste the forbidden fruit.
'cept I'm not too sure how.
The quests appear shallow, and I can't see any intelligent reason for which I'd want to treck across the wastelands, getting attacked by unidimensional raiders, annoying, mutated wildlife and more scary things!
In what mindframe can I play this game, without using illegal substances?

That's a great thinly-veiled attack on the game.

If you don't like FO3, I have a solution - Ignore it.

Sounds like FO3 isn't the game for you.

The only advice I can think of is to not think so hard on the plot and sidequests; or better yet, imagine that it's you who's been forced out of Vault 101, where you've spent most of your life in complete safety, with your Dad (James) being the only family member you've ever known, along with Jonas. (If you think you have a choice in the matter of leaving the Vault, then surrender to the Overseer at the beggining of the game. You'll see what I mean.)

Or, go the Bad Karma route; kill, cheat, and steal your way through the game. If there's a way to (censored) over everyone around you, and making caps in the process, then by all means do it!

well how else are you going to travel, tbh taking the time to explore brings many rewards from gud fights to unique items and of course who doesnt like to blow a enemies leg off just to see the pyruwet (bad spelling lol) like a figure skater

OK, so don't look at it as quest driven. Look it as a collector, or shooter, even role play a little. Work on the level of difficulty you play and work toward very hard and time yourself to see if you beat your personal time to max out your character. Role play by becoming a slaver and seeing how many people you can "collar". Try and collect every set of armor and weapon in the game. If none of this floats your boat, I would just look at trading the game in on something else you may like. There's some good games coming out this month and maybe this is not your cup of tea. Good luck.

one does not simply rock into the bethesda forums and throw around insults.

I love the game. I do see the point of if you were the main character would you risk your life doing the things you do? I am a good person so, I most likely would not pick anyone's locks. But, I can't keep myself from not collecting every Bobblehead I can.

I probably would listen to Moriarty and stay in Megaton. (I don't consider talking about him to be much of a spoiler because, he is one of the first people you most likely will talk to. Of course, sitting around all day in Megaton is not much of a game.

Really? I thought throwing around insults was pretty much just another form of saying 'hi' around here?

But to answer the OP, yes, nothing forbids you from playing without using chems.

I really do want to like this game, but I'm not sure I can.

Try alcohol, it shouldn't be illegal and the game does taste better after a few beers (results may vary :P ). And as you said in the OP, the quest are a bit shallow, so that's something you have to get used to in order to like this game (if your preference otherwise is more robust questlines, that is) as this game seems to be built mainly random exploring in mind.

Play it with the mind of a child in the fearful dark and the heart of a killer making every moment a fatal one for everyone but you and only you-

What I was gonna say.
To Porridge: Fallout 3 (IMO), is based more around exploring and doing whatever the hell you want (because Beth lets you do that), than quests. The great thing about Fallout 3 and TES is that you can be whoever you want, do whatever you want whenever you want, and there is a massive, engaging environment out there to explore. You'll find something new every play through, and every time you play the game.

If you make assumptions, you can asume america svcks and so you don't love america and so you c'n just GIIIT OUT!!

Seriously tough, this thread is pointless, just try the game and if you don't like it return it and forget about it. I must say how ever it takes some time to realize everything you can get out of this game so don't throw it away too quick.
