How does the "Current form: avg xp from last 5 games" work? : Crysis

I am having trouble finding out how it all works. I and me mate started the game today at around 3.5k avg xp. After that session, his avg. xp went to 6.5k and my xp was 4.5k. I had a better score and more crash site points than him. How does this even work?

(Match 1 XP + Match 2 XP + Match 3 XP + Match 4 XP + Match 5 XP) / 5

Because it includes all your bonuses and skill assessments that come up afterwards. Remember it's average XP, not average score, small but crucial difference there...
